and 5 are scheduled for this week. They also poured a big piece of slab on
grade in derrick 10 and part of 8 . Only the mechanical room and auditorium
remain. On the 20th they expect to pour the remainder of the auditorium
and the STP slab on 21st . There was a concern at the subcontractors
meeting about the upcoming holidays and cooperation with the weather.
Joel sent a letter today from SMMA regarding cold weather pouring and
compliance with A1306 . For one pour they were not in compliance , the
temperature went down to 28 . SMMA would like a plan on how they will be
incompliance for future pours before there are anymore pours .
Alan Scott said they will respond to that letter -- they will comply with
the spec . They are prepared to protect slabs with thermal blankets should
the temperatures drop. They are also prepared to do any remedial work for
derrick 2 , should it be necessary.
Tom Wren mention the first day the roofers were here the temperature was on
the threshold of the spec - 40 .
Alan Scott said the weather is marginal at this time of year. It could
freeze at night when they are not expecting it and Stone has to be prepared
for that .
Mr. Scott gave a quick view of where the project is going :
all the steel will be done by the end of the month, since the roof can go
on without the masonry. He expects to be "roofed out" by mid-December.
Their goal is to be building tight by the second week in December.
Base plate corrections are going on presently.
He does not have a finite schedule for the masonry. There will be 2
distinct heating operations going on so exterior and interior masonry can
go on simultaneously. They plan to stage and cover 300 feet of exterior
at a time . The temperatures are now too low to work on derrick 1 and 4
without cover.
Bill asked if anyone witnessed the waterproofing material being added to
the concrete block?
Jim said they have a letter of compliance from the manufacturer. He saw
them add the waterproofing material into the mortar.
Sewage Treatment Plant: Jim said the installer was on site today,
preparing for under piping so they can pour the foundation.
Paul said if the STP is not ready, the building cannot open.
Paul asked about windows? Mr. Scott said they are scheduled for delivery in
January. They just made the submission for the louvers at the base of the
windows .
Paul explained to Mr. Scott the Cape ' s unique high humidity situation.
There has been a problem with condensation, inside , at the other school
building. It is best to "bake it out" as best you can before the weather
gets very humid. It is a problem with slab on grade with no air
conditioners and buildings that are shut down for long periods of time. He
has been discussing this with the architects and believe, if they warm the
building prior to the condensation happening, he does not think they will
5
