Mr. whale said evaluate the software , that will dictate the hardware . <br /> Bill asked if the school will need a full time staff person? <br /> Mr. Whale said typically there are : One that understands curriculum and <br /> has a secondary interest in technology and the second person is a "hands <br /> on" technical person , one who could do repairs. <br /> Bill asked if 1"t is better to go outside for service? <br /> M r. whale said the first 2 years the installing vendor r will warranty the <br /> product. <br /> Paul said some of the -software may not be worthwhile purchasing in 1996 . <br /> The Committee should have a. plan , assuming they were ready to buy <br /> everything today, based on the technology discussed today , then revise the <br /> list for those ftems necessary to open the school . <br /> Steve said the teachers will teed orientation . <br /> Merry sue said it sound like about Sept 1 will be the appropriate time to <br /> start evaluating these systems/software. She and Jani'ce will have to look <br /> at them at the convention. <br /> She suggested some of the classrooms will be used by the community before <br /> the students get there and therefore software will have to be purchased- <br /> i .e. <br /> ur has d- <br /> i . . office technology . <br /> Mr , Whale explained if you burr h all at the same time, it will all have to <br /> be replaced at the same time. He recommends buying in 3 phases. <br /> Steve said the Committee doss have to establish a schedule and must look at <br /> the bonding , in order to stretch the equipment purchases out. <br /> Bill asked if i t i s cheaper to lease then to buy , because the technology is <br /> changing so fast? <br /> Mr . Whale asked if the school system was using Apple Es? They are. H <br /> said those are at least 8 years old. You don ' t wart to use them but they do <br /> have educational value. He said the average cost to lease is about $200 <br /> per month per ompute r and you can buy it brand new for $1 ,800 , He does <br /> not know of any district that is leasing . <br /> Joel said he will call Steve and Jeff whale to talk about the Tv studio <br /> requ i rements. <br /> Steve asked about a. video projector in the auditorium, it is ars expensive <br /> piece of equipment. <br /> Mr. Whale would recommend the video projestor. <br /> Paul suggested the Committee go over the open issues list during the next <br /> few meeti ri gs. This Committee will reed input for the School Committee and <br /> should set a date for a joint Meeting to talk about these issues and get <br /> them resolved . <br /> GROUNDS MAINTENANCE <br /> Dr . DeMoura explained he is developing an RFP for grounds maintenance. it <br /> would probably be logical that this service go out to bid, if approved b <br /> the School Committee. They will compare the cost of privatization vs. in <br /> house. He suggests this Committee set aside a sum of money for equipment, <br /> 6 <br />
