C . Trucking of excess fill to landfill : $75 , 199 .
** Paul made a motion to forward to Selectmen for approval
Change Order #1 in the amount of $77 , 783 . Merry Sue
seconded the motion . All members were in favor 6-0 .
Joel explained SMMA has submitted a proposal to Stone for pricing
for additional fields , tennis , basketball courts , curbing , site
accessories and extra sidewalk.
They have also submitted for pricing additional blinds and
shades , automatic faucets , light fixtures , auditorium seating and
additional food service equipment ,
The irrigation and synthetic surface for the track will be issued
Friday.
Joel said he , Gus Fredrick and SMMA' s electrical dept . talked
about the lighting for the tennis /basketball courts .
Gus was present and brought information on one type of system.
He spoke with the Recreation Director in Weston that has lights
that are constantly on. In the past they had coin operated
meters but changed the system because of vandalism. In Weston,
the lights are always on at half power and when someone goes onto
the courts they go onto full power - using motion detectors .
They also have an attendant at the courts , hired by the
Recreation Dept . A resident has to pay to get a tennis card .
Their budget is about $6 , 000 to provide power to the courts .
Gus thinks there is a problem in the way the lights are set up at
these tennis courts , it may be difficult for the coin operated
system. Because of the center row, someone will be paying for
lights for someone else .
Joel said they are recommending 40 foot poles , made especially
for tennis .
Steve asked if they still have the problem of waiting to re-
light?
Joel said they do . They looked at all the lighting systems . If
the lights are left at. half power and never turned off , there is
no cooling down period .
Janice said the basketball courts also have to be throw into this
discussion.
Joel said their recommendation is to put the lights on a control
panel , to be turned on and off at your convenience .
Paul suggested this Committee put the lights in, with the control
panel and who pays for them can be worked out in the meantime .
This way there is a provision for night recreation.
Gus said if they had the budget , they would do it but he is not
sure they can spend $6 , 00 on lights .
Steve said his concern is getting some level of commitment that
they would be used .
Paul said Leisure Services would use them.
5
