Mashpee School Committee
Restructure Sub-Committee
February 28, 2008
Minutes
Attendees: Chairman MaryRose Grady, Ralph Marcelli, and Rich Bailey. Also in
attendance were Superintendent of Schools Ann Bradshaw and Business Administrator
Patricia Lugo.
The meeting began at 5:05 p.m. in the Quashnet School Cafeteria.
Mrs. Grady stated that the goal of the meeting is to allow the community to voice
concerns and to form a working committee to investigate restructure. She stated that a
suggestion was made to have approximately 10 people on a working committee,
including administration, staff, parents, and school committee members. Mrs. Grady
stated that communication will be stressed and people will be kept abreast of information,
Mr. Marcelli stated that in his view, the purpose of the restructure committee is to do the
following;
• Investigate if it is economically feasible
• Investigate if it is beneficial to students
Mrs. Bradshaw stated that the question is," Can we use the space we have better?" She
discussed that some of the objectives of the meeting were to share the information that
has already been gathered about space and facilities and to gather more questions to see
what else may need to be looked at.
Ms. Lugo reviewed the facilities report that she and Mr. Tripp put together that
demonstrates how space is utilized in all three buildings.
Mrs. Grady opened the meeting to comments and questions.
There was discussion about what the Committee's thoughts might be as to the location of
Pre-School and Kindergarten for next year.
The Committee stated that no decisions have been made regarding Pre-School and
Kindergarten.
There was discussion that it was hard for parents to voice questions or concerns without
knowing how grades might actually be structured for next year.
Mrs. Grady suggested a possible scenario, for the purposes of discussion, of having one
building of Pre-K to 4, a second building of grades 5-8 and a third building of 9-12.
