Mr. Lorne spoke about athletics. He and Mr. Babbitt surveyed incoming 7th and <br /> 8th graders about athletics and extra-curricular activities. They showed interest in <br /> the following: <br /> Boys and Girls Soccer <br /> Field Hockey <br /> Girls and Boys Basketball <br /> Softball <br /> Baseball <br /> Football <br /> Cross Country <br /> Tennis <br /> Spring Track <br /> Golf <br /> The concerns would he that there are no other Fall middle school golf teams to <br /> compete with. Also, there is not a lot of interest in Middle School lacrosse, which <br /> could affect the NMS lacrosse team <br /> Mr. Home requested that any student in 7th grade this year that participated in <br /> sport this year Haat will not he offered for grades 7&8 next year, be grandfathered <br /> in for next year only, with parental request. This would be an issue in tennis, JV <br /> cheering, golf, winter and spring track, and lacrosse. <br /> Mr. Lorne stated that it would cost $4,000 to fund each sport. <br /> Thea was more discussion of the motion. <br /> Mrs. Bradshaw asked for clarification that if the feasibility study showed that it <br /> would be feasible to move grades could this happen as early as September 2008? <br /> Mr. Marcelli confirmed that this would be the case if thea was time and money to <br /> do so. <br /> Mr. Marcelli clarified his notion as follows: <br /> Mr. Marcelli motion was to not ask for a waiver to allow 7th& 8th graders to <br /> participate with grades 9-12 in any athletic activities. leo exceptions. <br /> Mrs. Grady clarified that the motion would then be: <br /> The restructuring Committee recommends the following scenario, that <br /> grades 7&8 will remain at the high school with the current distinction of <br /> Mahpee Middle school as recorded with the DOB with more focus on the <br /> academic, social, and behavioral needs of these students. Thea will remain <br /> separate principal for the 7th and 8th grades. There will not be a waiver for any <br /> Finance Meeting 5/21/08 7 <br />
