Mr. Lorne spoke about athletics. He and Mr. Babbitt surveyed incoming 7th and 8th graders about athletics and extra-curricular activities. They showed interest in the following: Boys and Girls Soccer Field Hockey Girls and Boys Basketball Softball Baseball Football Cross Country Tennis Spring Track Golf The concerns would he that there are no other Fall middle school golf teams to compete with. Also, there is not a lot of interest in Middle School lacrosse, which could affect the NMS lacrosse team Mr. Home requested that any student in 7th grade this year that participated in sport this year Haat will not he offered for grades 7&8 next year, be grandfathered in for next year only, with parental request. This would be an issue in tennis, JV cheering, golf, winter and spring track, and lacrosse. Mr. Lorne stated that it would cost $4,000 to fund each sport. Thea was more discussion of the motion. Mrs. Bradshaw asked for clarification that if the feasibility study showed that it would be feasible to move grades could this happen as early as September 2008? Mr. Marcelli confirmed that this would be the case if thea was time and money to do so. Mrs. Grady clarified that the motion would then be: The restructuring Committee recommends the following scenario, that grades 7&8 will remain at the high school with the current distinction of Mahpee Middle school as recorded with the DOB with more focus on the academic, social, and behavioral needs of these students.
