Curriculum Sub-Committee Meeting Minutes
August 28, 2012
Present: Debra Goulart, Phyllis Sprout, Dave Bloomfield
Meeting began at 11:00.
Ms. Sprout opened the meeting with several questions:
*Does the Common Core state that Latin and Greek roots are taught and if so,
what grade?
*Do the teachers at KCC teach phonics and if so, how?
*Is it possible to have a foreign language taught at the elementary schools?
Both Ms. Sprout and Mr. Bloomfield were given copies of the ELA Common Core State
Frameworks.
Ms. Sprout would like to go over to KCC and observe reading and writing lessons. It was
suggested that she connect with the principal and the reading teachers.
Discussion ensued regarding funds for a teacher of foreign language at the elementary
level. A suggestion was made to offer such a course after school using a volunteer.
Due to the nature of aligning curricula with the Common Core, the subcommittee decided
that a monthly meeting would be appropriate.
The next meeting is scheduled for September 25, 2012 at 11:00 in the office of the
Curriculum Director.
The meeting concluded at 12:15.
Respectfully submitted by Deb Coulart
