Mashpee MSchool <br /> School Council <br /> Minutes — Sept. 2o, 2012 <br /> Attendance: Sheila Arnold, Patricia Morano, Paulina Reilly, Beth Wunder, Chris <br /> Santos, Michael Looney <br /> Absent—Kevin Frye, Patricia Donovan <br /> The meeting convened at 2:2pm. <br /> Committee unanimously approved minutes of the May 17,2012 Meeting. <br /> . <br /> Appointments: - Members of 2012-2013 School Council,..Results of Election: Parents <br /> Chris Santos, Paulina Reilly, Effie Purdy, Elizabeth Wunder, Teachers—Patricia Morano <br /> and Patricia Donovan. Election held on September 25 (Open House). Election run by <br /> PTO President—Kristen Boyd. <br /> Communications: <br /> Old Business: The council reviewed open meeting regulations and the purpose of the <br /> school council. The council also heard the review of the Summer Math and Science <br /> Program and talked about ways to make it more accessible in the future such as providing <br /> transportation home from the program. Some parents of participants had expressed the <br /> difficulty of picking students up from a program that ended during their work hours. <br /> Council recommended either lengthening the day or providing transportation. <br /> New Business <br /> MMS now has a fully functioning PTO with Officers, Kristen Boyd, Mrs. Greene, <br /> Wendy Boyd and Shannon Iasuti. They have done fundraising at the Polar Cave, began <br /> selling discount cards and are raffling off Patriots 'Tickets. Diming for a Cause is <br /> scheduled at the 99 Restaurant in M shpee for September 26. Mr. Looney recommended <br /> that we get take out menus from the 99 and attache our coupons to them and send therm <br /> home with students. Other ideas presented by the PTO include holding events such as a <br /> W11 Tournament, and more volunteers are needed. The council heard updates on the DC <br /> Traveler's trip set for June of 2013 and information was provided on the overnight field <br /> trip fro grade 7 May 2 - 2, 2013 to Cape Cod Sea Camps. <br /> The MMS School Improvement Plan draft was presented and more information would <br /> come at follow-up meetings as the staff completed work on goals and strategies. The <br /> council also heard about use of our mass communication system, School messenger and <br /> use of the school website. <br /> The fieri trip to Patriot Place on October 12 was reviewed and it was noted that no child <br /> shall be held from the field trip for financial reasons. Payments will be made for these <br /> students out of student activity funds generated by BoxTops, Stop and Shop Plus and <br /> other fundraisers done by the school. <br /> Mr. Santos thea informed the council of a possible parent workshop on Computer Safety, <br /> which is his area of expertise. He would put together a PowerPoint Presentation for <br /> parents. The council agreed to move forward and picked a tentative slate of October 22 at <br /> 6:00 in the MHS auditorium, <br />
