Ma Middle School School Council Minutes — October 18, 2012 Attendance: Sheila Arnold, Patricia Ilorano, Paulina Reilly, Patricia Donovan, Chris Santos Absent—Devin Frye, Elizabeth Wunder, Effie Purdy The meeting convened at 2:2pm. Committee unanimously approved minutes of the Sept. 20, 2012 Meeting. Appointments: lone. The resignation of Mr. Rosbach as advisor for the national .Junior Honor Society was noted. A replacement will be appointed within the next month. Communications: The council was informed of the results of the 99 Fundraiser held for the PTO and thanks you's extended to Polar Cave, Mr. llorry, Noche Brothers. Old Business: Pulina Reilly gave a recap of the PTO progress selling discount cards, reports of funds raised to date of S 1205. The PTO purchased cross country jerseys for the middle school team and isworking on ideas for a wII Tournament in February, the Christmas Parade in December. The Council reviewed the 2012-2013 final version of the school improvement. Goals and strategies were explained. A discussion about rewriting the mission statement to he less wordy and to focus primarily on academics tools place. The council agreed to vote on the plan as written noting that work will be done throughout the year to revise the MMS Mission Statement. A motion was made by P. Donovan to accept the plan as written, seconded by C. Santos. Approved unanimously. New Business Mr. Santos reviewed with the council the parent workshop on Computer Safety, to be held October 22 at 6:00 in the MHS auditorium, A review of Rachel's Challenge was presented. Field trips were discussed reviewing the Patriot Place field trip held on October 12. over 120 grade seven students attended. Raytheon notified MMS that they will cover the cost of the workshop and will return our payment check of$390.00 as recognition of the 90 year in operation and our participation in their program since its beginning three years ago. This money will be applied to the Grade Seven field trip, in February, reducing the cost for each child to attend the Zeiterion Theater. EarthView, a huge globe and geography program will be coming to MMS on November 9. This event is sponsored by Bridgewater University. The council was also informed that MMS MS has been awarded the Yellow School Bus Grant this year for$200.00 which will be applied to the cost of transportation for the Grade 8 field trip, to the Zeitefion Theater in November ember helping to lower the cost for the students. TATS teacher department goals were reviewed noting the individual goals aligned to the school improvement plan and the district strategic plan. Other: Meeting was adjourned at :ooprn
