Ma Middle School <br /> School Council <br /> Minutes — October 18, 2012 <br /> Attendance: Sheila Arnold, Patricia Ilorano, Paulina Reilly, Patricia Donovan, Chris <br /> Santos <br /> Absent—Devin Frye, Elizabeth Wunder, Effie Purdy <br /> The meeting convened at 2:2pm. <br /> Committee unanimously approved minutes of the Sept. 20, 2012 Meeting. <br /> Appointments: lone. The resignation of Mr. Rosbach as advisor for the national .Junior <br /> Honor Society was noted. A replacement will be appointed within the next month. <br /> Communications: The council was informed of the results of the 99 Fundraiser held for <br /> the PTO and thanks you's extended to Polar Cave, Mr. llorry, Noche Brothers. <br /> Old Business: Pulina Reilly gave a recap of the PTO progress selling discount cards, <br /> reports of funds raised to date of S 1205. The PTO purchased cross country jerseys for <br /> the middle school team and isworking on ideas for a wII Tournament in February, the <br /> Christmas Parade in December. <br /> The Council reviewed the 2012-2013 final version of the school improvement. Goals and <br /> strategies were explained. A discussion about rewriting the mission statement to he less <br /> wordy and to focus primarily on academics tools place. The council agreed to vote on <br /> the plan as written noting that work will be done throughout the year to revise the MMS <br /> Mission Statement. A motion was made by P. Donovan to accept the plan as written, <br /> seconded by C. Santos. Approved unanimously. <br /> New Business <br /> Mr. Santos reviewed with the council the parent workshop on Computer Safety, to be <br /> held October 22 at 6:00 in the MHS auditorium, A review of Rachel's Challenge was <br /> presented. <br /> Field trips were discussed reviewing the Patriot Place field trip held on October 12. over <br /> 120 grade seven students attended. Raytheon notified MMS that they will cover the cost <br /> of the workshop and will return our payment check of$390.00 as recognition of the 90 <br /> year in operation and our participation in their program since its beginning three years <br /> ago. This money will be applied to the Grade Seven field trip, in February, reducing the <br /> cost for each child to attend the Zeiterion Theater. EarthView, a huge globe and <br /> geography program will be coming to MMS on November 9. This event is sponsored by <br /> Bridgewater University. The council was also informed that MMS MS has been awarded the <br /> Yellow School Bus Grant this year for$200.00 which will be applied to the cost of <br /> transportation for the Grade 8 field trip, to the Zeitefion Theater in November ember helping to <br /> lower the cost for the students. <br /> TATS teacher department goals were reviewed noting the individual goals aligned to the <br /> school improvement plan and the district strategic plan. <br /> Other: <br /> Meeting was adjourned at :ooprn <br />
