Parent Com unity Perceptions: Quashnet school, l aahpee Public schools
Our conversation focused on family and community perceptions about the Quashnet School. Ho
we combat misperceptions and make sure that accurate information is funneled into the influential
communication networks ori s was discussed. We plan to conduct a survey of family perceptions prior to the
end of this school year. We know we have an excellent school with great students, but we also know
that there is always room for improvement. When students demonstrate misbehaviors we provide thein
with interventions, guidance, and consequences designed to help them learn and improve. We need to
do more to encourage our parents to spend time at our school during the school day so they can form
their on first-hand opinions. We need to continually reinforce that we have an open door policy and
welcome all conversations—whether in person, aria the telephone, or through ars email. A fire-minute
conversation can change a misperception by providing additional/accurate information. First-party
communication is vital. Teachers need to communicate all misbehaviors—no matter hover ion►level—to
the parent. This will help provide clarity and avoid misperceptions. in almost all situations when a
student is spoken to by the principal or assistant principal the parent is notified, although there is always
room for improvement.
