Cemetery Commission
August 16, 2017
Members Present: Ernest Virgilio
Mike Scirpoli
Members Absent: Charlie Hinckley
Others: Rodney Collins, Town Manager
Wayne Taylor, Assistant Town Manager
Catherine Laurent, DPW Director
The meeting was opened at 4:07 pm.
Approval of Minutes
The minutes from the February 15, 2017 meeting were approved by a vote of 2-0.
Discussion of Plot Fees
The Board of Selectmen requested a review of the plot fees to see if comparable to other
towns. The fees have not increased since Great Neck Woods Cemetery opened. Mashpee is
the only town that allows non-resident, non-taxpayers to purchase plots.
The Commission has periodically reviewed the fees but made the decision to keep them low for
residents and taxpayers. Catherine distributed a comparison of fees from other towns (see
attached). They discussed increasing the fees for non-residents, non-taxpayers.
The Commission discussed a recommendation to the Board of Selectmen to change the fees for
Mashpee residents and/or tax payers to $600 per grave or niche and to $900 per grave or niche
for non-residents/non-taxpayers. They approved the recommendation by a vote of 2-0.
Lakewood Cemetery
Acquisition of the Lakewood Cemetery at the corner of Maple Street and Lakewood Drive was
approved at the May ATM for non-payment of taxes. Catherine will ask if the homeowner's
association has any records for the cemetery. The cemetery is no longer an active burial
ground.
Next Meeting
No meeting was scheduled.
The meeting adjourned at 4:35 pm.
Respectively submitted,
R
herine L r nt
DPW Director
