s
Board of Selectmen
Minutes
August 6, 2018
NEW BUSINESS
Discussion and Approval of Changes to Town Beach Signs: re: Grills:
Correspondence was received from Deputy Fire Chief Jack Phelan dated July 31, 2018 relative to
proposed language for signs at the Town Beaches regarding grills. The language was read aloud into
the record as follows;
Procedure for use of portable propane gas grills on Town Benches.
All outdoor fires are required to comply with M.G.L. Ch. 48 Section 13 and 310 CMR 7.07 as well as
the Massachusetts Fire Code 527 CMR 1.00 Ch. 10 & 69.
Portable propane (small grills) which operate through the use of a 11b. cylinder or less, shall be
allowed All cooking must be supervised by an adult, and care should be taken while children are in
the area.
Grilling is restricted to designated picnic areas only. Grilling is not allowed in the parking lots or on
the beach.
Propane cylinders must be carried out.
Rodney C. Collins, Town Manager and Mary K. Bradbury, Recreation Director recommended approval
of the language as referenced. In lieu of charcoal grills or the use of a 20# propane tank, small propane
cylinders; 1 lb. only would be allowed. It is essential the small cylinders be carried out by the user and
not placed in the trash composter. If this was to occur, the matter would be brought back to the Board
of Selectmen for reconsideration.
Motion made by Selectman Cotton to approve the language as recommended by the Deputy
Fire Chief for the Signage at the Town Beach areas regarding grill use.
Motion seconded by Selectman Cahalane.
VOTE: Unanimous. 5-4.
Roll Call Vote:
Selectman Sherman,yes Selectman Cahalane,yes Selectman Gottlieb,yes
Selectman O'Hara,yes Selectman.
