Town of Mashpee Department of Pudic Works
y( 350 Meetinghouse Road
SABLE y Mashpee, Massachusetts 02649
Telephone- (508)539-1420
MEMORANDUM Fax- (508)539-3894
April 6, 2009
TO: Board of Selectmen
Joyce Mason, Town Manager
FROM: Catherine Laurent, Director 'uA/
SUBJECT: Proposed No Parking Zone— Commercial Street
cc: Rodney Collins, Police Chief
I am writing on behalf of the DPW and Police Department to recommend the prohibition of
parking on a portion of Commercial Street.
On-street parking along Commercial Street in the vicinity of the Cape Cod Community Health
Center has become a concern. Each week day, 20-30 vehicles regularly park on both sides of the
street (see attached photographs).
As shown in the photographs, the parked vehicles extend into the travel lanes, impede visibility
for traffic, and force pedestrians to walk further in traffic.
The recommended parking ban is on the west side of Commercial Street as shown on the
attached plan. The ban would begin approximately 700 feet beyond the utility lines for a
distance of 700 feet, ending approximately 100 feet from the intersection with Mercantile Way.
