3 <br /> Board of Selectmen <br /> Minutes <br /> April 7. 2014 <br /> APPOINTMENTS&HEARIN <br /> � <br /> NHIAU.Missions and Wti tiy bpd te: <br /> Commanders of Joint Base Cape Cod were in attendance to provide an annual briefing of <br /> the base"s military missions and initiatives. The Com sanders before the Selectman <br /> included Colonel Gregory McDonald from the Massachusetts Army National Guard <br /> Training Site Camp Edwards, Colonel Jaynes Lefavor of the Massachusetts Air National <br /> Guard 102" Intelligence Wing, Lieutenant Commander Walt Jacking of the US Air Force <br /> Space warning Squadron, and Captain Steve Torpey of the CJS Coast Guard Air <br /> Station Cape Cod. <br /> The Joint Base Cape Cod,the largest military training site in New England is comprised <br /> of approximately 22,000 acres and currently provides jobs to 3,690 employees. <br /> Initiatives proposed include the replacement of older bui di gs with modern and energy <br /> efficient facilities. The unit training equipment site is under construction and a regional <br /> ftidning institute is planned for 2014. Camp Edward is denied a rstricted area. For <br /> safety and security, increased signage is intended to promote public awareness. The <br /> information campaign is deemed the main concern and the Board was requested t <br /> support heir efforts and advise the populace that Camp Edwards 'is not open for ATV /dirt <br /> bike recreation. <br /> In mid-April the controlled burrs are scheduled to begmn. one thousand acres of <br /> prescribed bums ars proposed in CY2014 to reduce wildfire risk, improve-training lands, <br /> and promote conservation lands for rave species. <br /> Current projects supported by the 6th Space warning Squadron include the installation of <br /> wind turbines,the water chiller replacement,continued construction programs and <br /> security upgrades. Appreciation was given to the Town of Mashpee for their continued <br /> support and partnership. Community assistance includes agreements with police and fire <br /> and support from the public library, local businesses, and charitable organizations. <br /> r <br /> Last year Air Station Cape Cod conducted over 2,000 missions saving 28 lyes and <br /> assisting in55 lues. A highlight of 2013 was the rescue operation involving the fleet <br /> vessel Anna Mary locating fishermen who were found alive after nearly twelve hours in <br /> the water, <br /> In closing,it was noted the 102nd fntelli ince Wiing has received some bud <br /> reductions. However, operations and ftuining continue. Future projects include the <br /> installation of a solar array and waste water treatrnent. <br />
