i
[Agenda topic 3] Spring Newsletter f: v
` far. There are two more e to fill.
.
Discussion.- Barbara presented Spring newsletter a. completed ar_ .
Our guest, Diane Lang, of Trustees of the Reservation offered to write an article about Lovell Holly.
Conclusions: our goal is to get the newsletter out by the beginning of June.
[Agenda topic Lowell Holl
Discussion: Diane Lang attended our meeting. She is the new Supervisor of the South Coast Management
Unit based in Buzzards Bay, and can be reached at 774-302-0779. She is responsible for managing eleven
properties: two on the Cape and others from Westport to Plymouth. Her boss, John vasconcellos is the SE
Regional Director based in the Westport Field Office. Barbara shared our history of concern of the '
overused beach area noting that we had notified the TTOR back in August of 2006 of the open latrine area
n the beach. Porta potties were put in by TT . in the parking area in 2007, but the latrine area still
existed in 2008 and TTOR was again notified. A lake property owner, Cheri Salem'us had emailed TTo
this past surnmer after noticing 130 people using the beach area one afternoon, open fires, and open latrine
areas. Diane has had a path cleared to this area with a permit from Conservation. She hopes to do a clean
in the area this spring and put up more signage. She mentioned that Barnstable County tested the
water weekly for swimming n both the Mashpee and Sandwich beaches. She-hopes to have a local
person give a presence in the area more often and get the information out that the beach will have to be
restricted to boaters if there is no 'improvement in use. ]Mane also mentioned that someone had blown up
the porta pottie in the parking lot and she had trouble getting the Police Dept. to respond. Eventually
Sandwich Police did respond as it is in their jurisdiction. She wondered if the Harbormaster could identify
violators if she gave him the bo .t number. Andrew and the committee offered to help with clean up or
arranging a meeting with the harbormaster. Andrew also mentioned the severe erosion from high water a
few years ago and suggested she have an environmental specialist check out the bluff area facing Mashpee
Pond, Where is no permit or fee to use the beach now or for the past six years, but it may be necessary next
year.
Conclusions: Diane Lang attended the meeting and presented plans for Lowell.Holly.
[Agenda topic 51 MEQ Meeting
Discussion: Heidi in Recreation has arranged a meeting with Lt. Belanger of MEP. Invited are Stephen
Mone, Harbormaster, Bob Mendes, parking lot attendant from last summer and 2 members of our
committee. Barbara Nichols and Debi McManus will attend.as Andrew is not available. It hoped than
problems arising at the Mate boat Launch involving loud boats, boats speeding and rule breaking by jet
skiers can be addressed and hopefully solved by MEP. IVDP needs to increase their presence on the lakes.
-Conclusions: A. meeting with SEP will be held Apri12 5, 2013
The meeting was adjourned at 8:19 P-M.
.respectfully submitted,
Barbara B.Nicho Is
