Board of Registrars <br /> Tuesday, November 23, 2002 <br /> Town Clerk's Office <br /> 8:00 a.m. —Convened Meeting <br /> Present: Karen Wadden, Chairman* Deborah I amt, T'o vn filer Jam es Vaccaro, and Susan <br /> Regan <br /> The Board convened to discuss the upcoming recount. FIs. Dami informed the Registrars as to <br /> the procedures that would be followed. Ms. I ami expected the Recount for the 3rd Barnstable <br /> State Representative race (Precincts 2, 4, and 5) to go smoothly without any unforeseen issues <br /> arising. After going over the Recount, the Registrars adjourned. <br /> 8:45 a.m. —Reconvened Meeting <br /> The Board of Registrars reconvened in Conference Rooms 1 and 2. <br /> Present: Karen Walden, Chairman; Deborah orah arid,Jown Clerk; Janes Vaccaro, and Susan <br /> Regan, Representative Matthew v Patrick and Attorney William McDermott, Candiate Larry <br /> Wheatley and Attorney Edward O'Brien. Attorneys Dan Hill and Carolyn Murray represented <br /> I opelman & Paige on behalf of the Town. <br /> Deborah Rami, Town Clerk, introduced the Board of Registrars to all that were present. <br /> The first order of business was to discuss with both candidates the Escrow Ballot of Bruce A. <br /> Lucas — The Town Clerk explained to everyone that she had documentation to show that Mr. <br /> Lucas was not eligible to vote in 1 lashpee. Nis. Walden made a motion to disqualify Mr. Lucas' <br /> ballot. The note was unanimous. <br /> 1s. Dami proceeded to explain to everyone the procedures that would be followed during the <br /> recount. She described the layout and that the court stenographer would be seated behind the <br /> Registrars. Because there were no issues or questions raised by either candidate, the Recount <br /> proceeded. <br /> The Recount began at 9:00 a.m. with both candidates, Patrolman Robert waterfield, going into <br /> the vault with the Town Clerk to retrieve the ballots. No issues were raised as to the integrity of <br /> disposition. The ballots were batched in groups of 50 and given to the counters. The Recount <br /> proceeded smoothly with little fanfare. Only one ballot proved to he incorrect. An absentee <br /> voter was given the ballot from the wrong district. while Representative Matthew Patrick lost <br /> the race in Ma tepee, he gained three votes in Mashpee.
