The area is about 1.48 acres and will be marked
with yellow balls at the corners. We are growing 6,000,000 quahog seed from
the ARC hatchery to be planted under the nets to protect it from predators such
as birds and crabs. This is the Community Preservation funded project. Another
,000 quahog seed for other areas was purchased from the hatchery with our
propagation funds and funds from the Barnstable County Cooperative Extension.
The Community Preservation funded project also doubled the amount of oyster
seed purchased this year to 2,000,bags of seed on shell pieces (remote set at
the hatchery). Barnstable County Cooperative Extension supplied another Zoo
bags for a total of 2,200 begs of oyster seed placed in trays in the Il ashpee
River. They are bright colors mostly orange and purple, so we
will be able to tell them from our other seed that is the regular dark color.
Our new Individual Placement AmeriCorps member starts tomorrow
and will be here Wednesdays and Thursdays. AmeriCorps groups of up to 1
members (possibly more)will start working with us on propagation next geek.
