Mashpee Waterways Commission <br /> Minutes f the May 13th,2014 Meeting <br /> in <br /> Chairman Ken Bates called the meeting to order at 9:OS Al at the Mhpe"town Hall in <br /> the Ockway Meeting Room. <br /> Present: Ken Bates,Al Wickel, Bill Taylor,Tim Leedharn and Don MacDonald <br /> Absent: Paul Zammito and Steve Pinard <br /> Also present: Rick York <br /> Minutes of April 8th, 2014: Motion was made by Tim Leedham to approve minutes, 2114 by <br /> Don MacDonald and unanimously approved. <br /> Communications and Correspondence: <br /> None <br /> Harbormaster Deport: <br /> No Report <br /> Shellfish Constable Report: <br /> Rick reported status of Dick Cook Popp nes et Bay aquaculture project and ongoing <br /> litigation.Also reported were recent developments in the watershed nitrogen management <br /> plan and bow it includes shellfish participation and creation of sewer district creation after <br /> the next Town elections.The establishment ofa$4.4 million rant to create ten acres of <br /> oyster reefs in lopponsset Bay was discussed. <br /> lashee Waeby Report: <br /> Bill reported that there was nothing new besides some increase in activity on the lake. Don <br /> MacDonald asked for some guidance regarding the decision to close a very popular beach <br /> on the Lowell Holly reservation. It was reported that overcrowding,noise and lack of trash <br /> removal by the individuals on the beach as reasons for the decision. Don suggested that <br /> there were other~options other than closure to all motor boats,citing sailing vessels and <br /> human powered boats were Mill allowed to enjoy the area. "ire need to manage existing <br /> laves better" to protect the rights and fireedoms of the many from the disruptive activities o <br /> the few. <br /> Public Access Update: <br /> Al reported he would continue researching into improving road conditions of Wills Works <br /> road. Discussions included the beautiful and safe beach that is unavailable for enjoyment <br /> on wa uoit Bay as well as the safety concerns if there was an emerg ncy in that area and <br /> roads were impassible for response crews. <br />
