AshumetrJohns Pond Association
Box 2149, Mashpee, MA 02649
r
ago,
i
4 s.
May 22, 1995 y` MAY 2 41995
fames Vaccaro, Chairman _-
Board Of Selectmen -------___--- --- -_--5-` ..
Mashpee Town Hall
16 Great Neck Rd. North
Mashpee, MA.. 02649
E
t
Dear : Mr. Vaccaro,
At the meeting of the Ashumet-Johns Pond Association held on April 29,
1995, at the Carol Jacobson Senior Center, the members present voted unanimously
in opposition to the proposed ski jump and/or water ski slalom course proposed for
Johns Pond.
It is the Association's position that the use of the pond for such activities is not
in keeping with what we believe to be the proper use for this body of water. We feel
that the above activities could become an attractive nuisiance; draw more boats to the
pond, and pose a threat to fisherman, sailboats, and other recreational users.
There is also the contamination issue to be considered. The pond is presently
being studied extensively for the presence of toxics from the plumes that are known
to be entering the pond. Will an increase in motorboat activity from more powerful !
boats add to the problem? Until the contamination issue is resolved, we must do
whatever we can not to add to the problem.
fSincerely,
Albert J. Orlando
President
Ashumet-Johns Pond Association
j
