The School Commit <br /> . P tee _ <br /> is concerned for the safety of the Mashpee school children since they are <br /> dropped off in front of the establishment by us bdaily. <br /> Y <br /> Selectman Vaccaro indicated that he has discussed this concerni <br /> w th <br /> Town Counsel. There are "no grounds"for the Selectmen to e <br /> the o char opening of the g <br /> p g e establishment. <br /> Town Counsel recommended the Board discuss this concern with the <br /> licensee. Selectman Vaccaro indicated that he requested the licensee <br /> to voluntarily open the establishment at 4:0o .m. on the days that <br /> schoolP y <br /> is in session. <br /> The licensee did not want to compIY with this request. It was noted <br /> that the establishment has no outstanding complaints to date. Selectman <br /> Vaccaro recommended to discuss this concern with the Chief of Police. <br /> This is within the realm of the Community Policing Program indicated <br /> cated <br /> Selectman Vaccaro. <br /> Selectman Caffyn indicated that some of the actions at the establishment <br /> are considered questionable. Should children live in a roximit of an <br /> . P Y <br /> establishment such as this questioned Selectman Caffyn. <br /> Selectman Caffyn recommended the Board consider authorizing the <br /> Housing Authority to investigate this matter. Selectman Costa <br /> offered to discuss this concern with the Board of Health. <br /> Selectman Costa recommended to request the School Committee to <br /> discuss the issue with their counsel, Attorney Butler. <br /> Kathy Lynch, a member of the School Committee indicated that the Town <br /> is responsible for the children until they get to their front door. She noted <br /> that parents have notified the Police with regards to patron activities. <br /> School Committee member, Steve Paxton stated that the self esteem of the <br /> children living in the area is low. The problem is ongoing and appears to <br /> be getting worse. Mr.Paxton indicated that the School Committee <br /> has not discussed this concern with Attorney Butler to date. <br />
