AFFIRMATIVE ACTION COMMITTEE <br /> MEETING OF MAY 8, 2007 <br /> MASHPEE TOWN HALL <br /> Committee Members present: Janice Rhoden, Vice Chairman, and Patrick Duffy. <br /> Marilyn Farren was also present during the meeting. <br /> Meeting convened at 5:30 p.m. <br /> The Committee met two discuss two activities for the"No Place for Hate" program—a <br /> run for the Mashpee Housing Authority to raise funding to help low-income Mashpee <br /> families with housing. They would plan a potluck dinner after the event connecting with <br /> Mashpee residents with discussion of cultural diversity. <br /> Cel oration of Diversit Festival <br /> Committee members reviewed a flyer about a Celebration of Diversity Festival scheduled. <br /> for Saturday, May 19, 2007 from 1:00 p.m..--4:30 p.m. at the Cape Cod Academy. This <br /> event is sponsored.by People to People International PEACE Chapter. Committee <br /> members requested Marilyn to contact Myriam Zuber at ADL to see if this would quality <br /> for an activity if members were to have a table reaching out to students at the private <br /> school. <br /> Membership Drive <br /> Janice Rhoden prepared a flyer to reach out to Mashpee students at the Cape Cod <br /> Community College, The committee will sponsor a follow-up meeting with the students <br /> to discuss cultural diversity. Janice will contact a representative from Student Placement <br /> at the College requesting permission to hang the flyer on the bulletin board. <br /> It was agreed that we would plan an interview with Mashpee residents for cable access <br /> TV as an activity for this month if the Celebration of Diversity Festival was not accepted. <br /> Janice indicated that the print on the town's web page for membership was in tiny print, <br /> She commented that there needs to be awareness that we are operating. It should be on <br /> cable, on the Town's web site, and in the newspaper. Janice asked for a copy of the"No <br /> Place for Hate" article. Patrick suggested contacting the Mashpee Boys and Girls Club. <br /> He will follow up. <br /> Marilyn will contact Myriam Zuber of A.D.L. to ask for materials. Discussion centered <br /> around getting a plastic banner with the"No Place for Hate" symbol. <br /> Members worked on the re-certification application.
