AFFIRMATIVE ACITON COMMITTEE MEETING OF JANUARY 13, 2004 MASHPEE TOWN HALL Committee Members Present: Jan Strickland, Chairman, Melbourne Cragwell, Norma Kumin, Trish Parolski, Teresa Cook and Marilyn Farren, Affirmation Action Officer/EEO, Also, present was Elaine Good. Meeting convened at 4:30 p.m. Vacancy on Committee Committee members welcomed Elaine Good to the meeting. Elaine is interested in serving on the committee. She responded to an advertisement in the Mashpee Enterprise regarding the vacancy on the committee created by the resignation of Gregory Enos. Elaine has been a Mashpee resident for fifteen years and is currently a full-time student at Cape Cod College. She indicated that she wanted to work with public policy and Affirmative Action. Terry Cook motioned to have Elaine Good appointed to the committee. Trish Parolski seconded the motion. All in favor. Signs Committee members commented that they were very happy to see the"No Place for Hate" signs which have been placed at all five entrances to the Town. "No Place for Hate"Representation Agreement Committee members reviewed and signed a "No Place for Hate"Representation Agreement at the request of the Anti-Defamation League. The agreement states that it is understood that the Town of Mashpee is prohibited from using the Program for purposes that are outside the scope of the authorized Program in the community and it is further understood that the Town of Mashpee does not have the authority to represent ADL or ADL's positions, without prior written consent of an authorized ADL representative. An agreement will be seat to committee members not present. Equity/Compliance Officer Jan Strickland said that he felt it was time for the town to look into a full-time Equity/ Compliance Officer position. This person would work for both the Town and the School. Members of the committee wanted to get an idea of what this person would do so they requested that George Spivey,Equity/Affirmative Action Officer for the Town of Falmouth, be invited to a future meeting. Trish commented that budgets have already been submitted and that it might be something we could look into for the future.
