MASHPEE AFFIRMATIVE ACTION MEETING <br /> JANUARY 22 , 2002 <br /> Present : Jan Strickland , Norma Kumin, Melbourne Cragwell , Donna <br /> Lopez , Gordon Green, Marita Scott , Marilyn Farren. <br /> Chairman Jan S. opened the weeting at 4 : 30 p.m. at Mashpee Town <br /> Hall . <br /> The Minutes of December 13 , 2001 were accepted as ate€ended <br /> Donna L. spoke on the "Teens Against Violence" presentation <br /> scheduled for January 18th and the "No Place for Hate" essay <br /> contest . The Diversity Club at the High School is involved. <br /> The grant has been approved , and Willowbend may contribute also . <br /> The School Cor€mittee Chairperson, Terry Cook, and the <br /> Superintendent will be invited to our February rtieeting to talk <br /> about the history in Mashpee. <br /> Gordon G. reported that the Selectmen voted to change the rLiakeup <br /> of the Affir€aative Action Hearing Board and appoint Donna Lopez <br /> as an at-large tete€€€ber for a term to expire June 30 , 2002 . <br /> There was a discussion about who might serve as School Liaison. <br /> The candidate needs to be sympathetic to people ' s needs . <br /> MaryJane Beech arrived to talk about the Mulicultural Festival <br /> scheduled for Saturday , March 2nd , 2002 , at the CCCC. She <br /> brought information and bookmarks for school distribution. <br /> There will be a participant orientation meeting on Tuesday , <br /> February 5th at Barnstable Town Hall . Jan Strickland volunteered <br /> to attend. Volunteers are needed for registration and kids <br /> events . The Committee will set up a resource table representing <br /> the Town and invite the Tribal Council and Hutaan Services to <br /> participate. Norma will contact Louise Patrick . The table <br /> can be warned in teams from 10 :00 a.m. to 4 :00 p.m. Melbourne <br /> suggested creating a banner to represent different nationalities. <br /> Melbourne C. submitted an idea for a Mission Statement as <br /> follows : To insure those who reside in Mashpee the opportunity <br /> to achieve their "Dream" in life without distinction. All are <br /> welcomed in Mashpee. Norma K. moved to adopt this Mission <br /> Statement . Gordon G. seconded. Motion passed. <br /> The Committee will meet on Tuesday , February 12th , to hear <br /> information from the February 5th Multicultural Orientation <br /> meeting . The next regular €Meeting will be held on the 4th <br /> Tuesday , February 26 , 2002 , at 4 : 30 p.tt€. Norma K. suggested <br /> making a list of materials for the resource table , possibly <br /> the 6th grade essays on No Place for Hate.
