There is other tax title Town owned vacant
properties available for consideration.
It was noted that approximately $280,000 exists in mitigation funds held
by the Cape Cod Commission that could be used upon approval of the
Commission as seed money to construct affordable housing;homes and/or
duplexes in the Town of Mashpee. The benefit of constructing affordable
housing for many residents opposed to one was deemed the most
favorable option for the use of available and future funding.
Additional funding to be considered to offset affordable housing costs
exists in the 10%affordable housing reserves of the Community
Preservation Committee, an estimated $300,000 that could be utilized for
affordable housing purposes.
Upon review, the Trust was more receptive to the concept of constructing
additional affordable housing units rather than just 1,one bedroom
condominium unit with potential legalities and other issues.
A charge of the Affordable Housing Committee is to seek developers for
affordable housing projects in their manner of choice, and maintain
involvement with 40B projects. For additional insight, it was suggested
the Housing Assistance Corporation(HAC),the Mashpee Housing
Authority, Habitat for Humanity, The Town of Barnstable, and Veteran's
outreach be consulted with respect to this regard.
Motion made by Mr. Taylor to not pursue the affordable housing
condominium unit located at 4A Schooner Lame,Mashpee.
Motion seconded by Mr. Cahalaue.
VOTE: 5-0-1.
Roll Call Vote:
Mrs. Cook,yes Mr. Cahalane,yes
Mr. Richardson, abstained Mr. Taylor,yes
Mrs. Sherman,yes Mr. Halpern,yes
Opposed, none
