I
Bob referred to the brochure prepared by the Chamber of Commerce. Mwy Lou Palumbo and
Carol Sherman sent out a survey to different businesses regarding accessibility and the
accessibility of a business is indicated in the brochure. Additionally, Jefgan from the Mass
Office on Disabilities suggested surreys that were being used elsewhere on the Cape. One was a
questionnaire that was very comprehensive. He suggested perhaps the Chamber could work on a
similar questionnaire. There was another enclosure that Jeff` forwarded to the committee
members hers describing tax credits available for improving access. Bob stated there were a number
of interesting documents included in the email from Jeff'and recommended the members review
them at their leisure. One of the documents included towns that had Disability Commissions and
the difference between a commission and committee. we previously have considered seeking
this designation but decided that was unnecessary at the time.
Tour Buses
Bob informed the members that there has been some progress on the tour bus issue. A recent
court decision ruled that Buses need to be 100% readily accessible to and usable by individuals
with disabilities. Charlie noted this may pertain to lame companies with fixed routes. Hopefully,
this ruling will filter down to the local level. Charlie commented that this is a civil rights issue
and would be handled by the Justice Department under the American with Disabilities Act.
Charter Review Committee
Bob informed the members that the Charter Review Committee has been reactivated. He said if
there is any part of the Charter the members are affected by they should make those concerns
known.
Big Fix
This program is run through the Housing Assistance Corporation. on September 2 , volunteers
will complete projects requested by selected disabled residents, seniors and veterans. The
volunteers will complete projects such as landscaping and .housing repairs. Mashpee selectman
Mike Richardson has put together a public service announcement to be broadcast by the Audible
Local Ledger to make people aware of it. It is also on the town website. The middle of August
is the end date for applications.
Bob noted it was time to pant parking spaces again and to fix the door at the Quashnet School.
He said DPW is working on the boat ramp and they are doing a great job on the walkway along
Great Neck Road North.
Bob will contact Carol Sherman and Mary Lou Palumbo about the accessibility questionn&e
and about the open position on the committee.
Next Meeting
Next meeting will be held on September 12 at 2:00 p.m.
