S <br /> Community Preservation Cottee <br /> Frites <br /> April 23, 2013 <br /> CPA Application;John' and Beach Improvements <br /> Applicant: ent of Public Works: <br /> The director of Public Worts was in attendance to request funding for <br /> improvements to John's Fond Beach, a cost of$326,000, <br /> The goal of the project is to improve the recreational facilities of the beach for <br /> year-round use. The project will fund the purchase of playground equipment and <br /> the construction of a picnic pavilion. In addition, a storage building is proposed <br /> with permanent restroo s. The project also reconstructs and enlarges the parking <br /> lot to accommodate the facilities. Site furnishins such as benches,picric tables, <br /> gills and bike rats are also included in the request for CPA funding. <br /> Is. Laurent indicated that John's Pond beach is one jof the d'own's three public <br /> beaches. It is used by the Kids Klub and Boys & Girls Club during the steer <br /> months. 1t is an asset to the Mashpee community and improvement ill enhance <br /> usage for visitors and the Town recreational programs. <br /> Last season, 3,700 recreational stickers were purchased, and approximately 490 <br /> daily passes were bought. <br /> For safety reasons,the DPW Director has proposed to reconstruct the parking lot <br /> so 1t 1s cited adjacent to the picnic area for safe crossing. The parking lot is <br /> proposed to be expanded to 100 spaces,and increased by approximately 20%. <br /> Due to the reconfiguration of the propel, it is not feasible to phase the project <br /> proposal,. If funding is receiv6d,the construction project would begin <br /> F <br /> r mediately with anticipation the project would be complete during the sumer <br /> of 2014. - <br />
