It
was explained the 1995 pictorial booklet is a valuable tool to re-publish and to
bring forth ars improved and updated version.of Mashpee's history to the public.
In addition to the new book being of Importance to Mashpee and its community,
Ms. Soderberg stated that many residents have expressed an interest in receiving
the latest documented report of Mashpee and its unique history.
It was noted the author Rosemary mart'Burrs of Mashpee has published three boobs
which include;Springdale Remembered—A History of a Section of Stamford,
Connecticut 1641-1949, 18 70 Mashpee 1995, and A History ofNew Sea rt'by
e Sea. Ms. Burns has also been a member of the Mashpee Historical
Commission since 1985. The book will include some of the histories the author
has written including a compilation of research accomplished by fellow Historical
Commissioners. It was explained that photographs are welcome to further
enhance the planned document.
A budget of$22,500 is projected to cover the cost of printing 1500 copies of a
150 page glossy soft-cover book; 8.5 x 11,which would include 18 pages of color
photographs. The books are proposed to be sold at local venues for$20 each.
Funds from the sale of the books are anticipated to be returned to the Community
Preservation Committee or to the designated Town fund.
Discussion followed with respect to this regard. It is unclear as to which account
the funds from boos sales should be appropriately deposited. It was agreed this
matter would be investigated further with the Town Manager and possibly Town
Counsel. F
CPC member Diane I ommel Byer, the former Town Accountant indicated that
all receipts for the proposed book would be required to be deposited into the
Ton's General Fund unless a special fund detailed to track sales is set up by the
Town Accountant for this purpose.
Ms. Soderberg indicated the Historical Commission would continue to review
additional sources for potential grant funding initiatives.
