3 <br /> Corii lunity Preservation Committee <br /> Minutes <br /> November 1 2,20 l 3 <br /> N anc Soderberg—Mashpee Historical Commission: A HistoKy of Mashpee: <br /> Historical Commission member Nancy Soderberg was before the Conunity <br /> Preservation Committee to request funding consideration to publish a documented <br /> pictorial history of the Town of Mashpee.- <br /> Ms. <br /> ashpe .leis. Soderberg indicated that in 1995 author rosemary Burns completed <br /> ictorial history of the Town to commemorate I lash ec's 125d' Anniversary. It <br /> was explained the 1995 pictorial booklet is a valuable tool to re-publish and to <br /> bring forth ars improved and updated version.of Mashpee's history to the public. <br /> In addition to the new book being of Importance to Mashpee and its community, <br /> Ms. Soderberg stated that many residents have expressed an interest in receiving <br /> the latest documented report of Mashpee and its unique history. <br /> It was noted the author Rosemary mart'Burrs of Mashpee has published three boobs <br /> which include;Springdale Remembered—A History of a Section of Stamford, <br /> Connecticut 1641-1949, 18 70 Mashpee 1995, and A History ofNew Sea rt'by <br /> e Sea. Ms. Burns has also been a member of the Mashpee Historical <br /> Commission since 1985. The book will include some of the histories the author <br /> has written including a compilation of research accomplished by fellow Historical <br /> Commissioners. It was explained that photographs are welcome to further <br /> enhance the planned document. <br /> A budget of$22,500 is projected to cover the cost of printing 1500 copies of a <br /> 150 page glossy soft-cover book; 8.5 x 11,which would include 18 pages of color <br /> photographs. The books are proposed to be sold at local venues for$20 each. <br /> Funds from the sale of the books are anticipated to be returned to the Community <br /> Preservation Committee or to the designated Town fund. <br /> Discussion followed with respect to this regard. It is unclear as to which account <br /> the funds from boos sales should be appropriately deposited. It was agreed this <br /> matter would be investigated further with the Town Manager and possibly Town <br /> Counsel. F <br /> CPC member Diane I ommel Byer,the former Town Accountant indicated that <br /> all receipts for the proposed book would be required to be deposited into the <br /> Ton's General Fund unless a special fund detailed to track sales is set up by the <br /> Town Accountant for this purpose. <br /> Ms. Soderberg indicated the Historical Commission would continue to review <br /> additional sources for potential grant funding initiatives. ' <br />
