Coni n ium*ty Preservation Committee <br /> Minutes <br /> w <br /> November 1 2, 2013 <br /> Joan mouse—Lewis Propgr <br /> ly 32 Collins Lane—3.7 Acres of Open ace: <br /> Joan Muse, a local rea.ltor was in-attendance representing William Lewis,Jr. to <br /> discuss the application for CPA funding to purchase a parcel of land on Collins <br /> Lane for open space and passive recreation purposes. The parcel is referenced on <br /> Assessors Map 36, Block 4. <br /> Additional communication was received from John Brooks and Velma Mathis <br /> neighbors ofthe subject property i support of the purchase by the Town of <br /> Mashpee for open space purposes. Correspondence was also received from the <br /> Mashpee Baptist Church having no objection to the sale of the 3.7 acre property. <br /> The open space property is assessed currently by the Town at$165,300. The <br /> previous assessment was $183,600. The abutters of the property also include the <br /> Commonwealth of MA Division of Fisheries & Wildlife and ars abandoned home <br /> situated adjacent to the Lewis Property. <br /> Tom Fudala,the Town Planner was present for discussion purposes. Mr. Fud l <br /> indicated the acquisition of the property is consistent with'the Town's Local <br /> Comprehensive Plan for Open Space for the protection of, and access, to the <br /> Mashpee River and associated upland Bio Map Core Habitat. <br /> Mr. Fudala indicated the property lies 50' from the Mashpee River. There are no <br /> wetlands on this parcel. 1t is a beautiful forest and scenic property. It was <br /> explained this site location has been a part of the Mashpee River Codr project <br /> since 1985. <br /> Since the property is identified-in the endorsed Open Space Plan,the Town <br /> qualifies to apply for grant funding to the Mate's LAND program, formerly <br /> Lown as the Self-Help program. Tis project and the additional open space <br /> proposal being considered by the Community Preservation Committee are <br /> contained in the Town's Action Plan on record. For grant qualification,the Plan <br /> is certified by the Mate until October of 2015. Under the guidelines of the LAI <br /> program,the Town would qualify for an estimated rate of 2%in reimbursement. <br /> Andrew McManus,the Town's Conservation Agent expressed support of the <br /> purchase of this valuable panel for the protection of the Mashpee River. Mr. <br /> McManus indicated that most of the corridor along the river is protected as open <br /> space. <br /> Ramona Peters a member of the Mashpee Tribe announced that she is a founding <br /> member of the newly created Native Land Conservancy. IVIS. Peters indicated that . <br /> she is in support of both land projects to conserve land in the Town of Mashpee. <br />
