ry <br /> s <br /> Mashpee Environmental Oversight Committee <br /> Minutes of Meeting <br /> March 14, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. <br /> Mashpee Town Hall, waquoit Meeting Room <br /> Present: Chairman George Petersen, Selectman John Cahalane, Rick York,Peter white, 1chael <br /> Talbot <br /> Absent: Ted Theis <br /> CALIF TO ORDER <br /> The 'Meeting was opened by Chairman Petersen at 7:04 p.m. <br /> APPROVAL OF MEETING MINUTES January 10, 201 <br /> Approval of the minutes was deferred until additional attending EOC members were present. <br /> Following Chief Baker's presentation and with a quorum of attending members present, a motion <br /> was made to approve the minutes. <br /> Selectman Cahalane made a motion to approve the minutes of January le, 2013. Mr. <br /> White seconded the motion. AH voted unanimously. <br /> COMMUNICATIONS <br /> There was no public comment. <br /> NEW BUSINESS <br /> Fire Chief George Baker Presentation Town of Mashpee Emergency Management Pian <br /> Fire Chief George Baker attended the meeting to present information regarding local planning <br /> with Pilgrim Nuclear Power Plant, as well as to discuss Mashpee emergency planning activities. <br /> Chief Baker shared a PowerPoint presentation with the audience. <br /> Chief Baker began with a description of recent emergency planning that occurred with <br /> Superstorrn Sandy and other recent storms. Chief Baker reported that the Fire Department <br /> received 18 calls in a 24-hour period, which was triple the number of calls received for a typical <br /> day. Chief Baker reported that 68 calls in a 24-hour period, over 3 days, were received during <br /> the Nemo Blizzard. Chief Baker described examples of disaster planning, such as with severe <br /> weather, civil unrest or industrial./hazardous material events. The Chief pointed out that, in <br /> disasters, there were responses and mitigation. litigation represented pre-prevention, such as <br /> moving equipment in order to be prepared for a disaster. Chief Baker described personal actions <br /> that could be taken such as acquing appropriate insurance and being prepared with a home <br /> . emergency kit, as well as having a distant family contact available. <br /> Chief Baker identified resource partners who work v6th Mashpee, such as the Barnstable County <br /> Regional Emergency Planning Committee (REPO), of which Chief Baker is currently the Chair. <br /> Chief Baker described some of the activities and issues being considered by the REPO, and <br /> consisting of 17 positions, including transportation planning, evacuation and sheltering. ME1rIA <br /> (Massachusetts Emergency Management) serves as a""storekeepers# for disasters, responsible for <br /> the planning for disasters and providing state resources for the cleanup of the disaster. FEMA <br /> plays a similar role at the Federal level. The Department of Conservation&Recreation (DGR) <br /> offers fire control and tree removal_ The Northeast Pure Protection Compact features a contract <br /> with six-New England communities and Canadian communities and provides air support for <br />
