Mashpee Environmental Oversight Committee <br /> Minutes of Meeting <br /> August 19,2014 at 6:30 p.m. <br /> 1ashpe Ton lull, wguoit Meeting Room <br /> Present: Chairman George Petersen, Ted Theis,Rick York <br /> Absent: Selectman John Cahalane,Mike Talbot,Drew McManus <br /> CALL TO ORDER <br /> The meeting was opened by Chairman Petersen.at 6:50 p.m. with a quorum. <br /> APPROVAL A OF MEETING MINUTES July 15, 2014 <br /> There was discussion recommending clarifying the text by changing the sentence to "Mr. York <br /> summarized that increased nitrogen allowed the algae and seaweed to bloom, resulting in eel <br /> grass and scallop loss.' <br /> Mr. Theis made'a motion to accept the minutes with the modified sentence as discussed. <br /> Mr. Fork seconded the motion. All voted unanimously. <br /> COMMUNICATIONS <br /> None at this time <br /> ACTION ITEMS UPDATE <br /> Estuary estoratior Sheli ish Propagation <br /> -. York reported that the Sewer Commission's joint NEPA/Cape Cod Commission hearing <br /> regarding the Comprehensive wastewater and Nitrogen Management Flan would occur next <br /> week. The draft plan submitted to the State was available as a link on the Town's website under <br /> the Sever Commission. Mr. York indicated that the initial focus would be on building the <br /> shellfish program with a hope that the need for sewering would be reduced. Mr. York also <br /> reported that there would be an additional round of Federal funding available from the Fish <br /> Wildlife Foundation grants. Modifications were being made to the previous proposal that should <br /> provide a good chance to acquire grant funds. An RFP was anticipated for September. <br /> Pond & Estuary mater Quality <br /> Ilex. York stated that there was a shrimp and crab HL in front of WBNERR only, following a <br /> dark rain period. fir_ York indicated that the shellfish were growing well and noted that algae <br /> counts from the PALS program were now being rei eyed. <br /> Nutrient Management& fertilizer Reg lations for Fresh water Ponds & Estuaries <br /> Nix. Whets reported that Mr. Talbot's email indicated that the next order of business would be to <br /> actively promote the bylaw, which he was pursuing. There was discussion whether the bylaw <br /> would appear on the October or spring Town Meeting Warrant. <br /> OLD BUSINESS <br /> Combine water-Sever <br /> No update <br />
