`- or Budget Meeting Reports with Town Department Heads Joyce Mason stated that she had asked department heads for no budget increases other that 18% gas and 16% electric utility costs, and that all departments had complied with her request. . Tarr Rate. Charles G si r reported that the tax rate for 2014 has been set at 9.20 %. . School Department. school Superintendent Brian Hyde requested that he meet with the Finance Committee at their,January 23, 2014 meeting to review the School Committee budget. The Committee agreed to invite Mr. Hyde to attend the 1/23/2014 Fin Com meeting. . Categones of Expense—A. General Govemment Charles Gasior distributed a "Summary of FY2015 Appropriations in Town Manager' Budget". The summary included ar comparison of the FY 2014 Approved budget, FY 2014 Final Budget, and FY2015 Department Requests. Line items under General Government include: Moderator, Legal Engineering, Finance Committee,mittee, Accounting, Assessing, TreasurerfTax Collector, Human Resources, MIS/Tech Information, Town Clerk/Elections. IIIb. Gasior reviewed the budget requests for each lire item department with explanations for variations from prior years' budgets. Joyce Mason agreed to forward t the Committee a document than will display her proposed cuts by department, with a couple of changes that were actual increases. IVH Mason stressed that this is not to be considered her final review, and things are Mill changing- 4. B. Maintenance of Public Property Chris Avis reported on the DPW budget, including DPMI and Transfer Station & Recycling lines. DPW has requested an increase in anticipation of the need for repair and betterment of roads. The Transfer Station & Recycling line is Mill looking at three possible options, with no final decision as yet. Charles Gasi r made a 'notion that the Finance Committee invite Catherine Laurent to a future Finance Committee 'meeting to explain the three transfer station options. Chris Avis seconded the 'notion. The motion was approved -g 1 no j absent). . D. Public Safety Joyce Mason reported a recommended $60,000 in cuts to the Acting Fire Chief s proposed budget. . E. Resident ident Servi e — Council on Aging Oskar Klenert reported on 'meeting with Lynne Waterman, Director of Council on Aging, stating his very favorable impression of the services being offered by the Department.ent. The only,increase in budget for 2015 was for energy, gas, for vehicle maintenance. = BOS LIAISON REPORT F T — Mike Richardson Mike reported on his attendance at the School Committee meeting on Wednesday, 1/08/14. Mike stated that he passed along to the school Committee his feeling that good things are happening in Mashpee: renewal of Police Chief Rodney Collins for 3 years; School Superintendent renewal for years; looking for a new Recreation Director; commercial growth; Mashpee Cares incentives; gun return control certificates issued by Chamber of Commerce. Supt. Hyde says what he 'means, and he 'Weans what he says, and the relationship between the School and Town are on a smooth course.
