TOWN OF MASHPEE <br /> SOUTH CAPE BEACH STATE PARK ADVISORY COMMITTEE <br /> Minutes of the Meeting of Tuesday, September 12, 200.6 <br /> Members Present: Members ers Absent: <br /> Jeri Smith, Chairman Gus Frederick <br /> Frank Connelly, Vice Chairman Lance Larnbros <br /> Michael Cardeiro Carey Murphy <br /> Obert Lancaster <br /> Ben Lofchie <br /> William Martiros <br /> Chairman Jen Smith called the meeting to order at 6:08 PM. <br /> REVIEW I of MINUTES <br /> Minutes from the meeting of 7118/06 were unanimously approved by the Committee. <br /> 1O-ACRE SITE UPDATE <br /> Jeri Smith reported that she has been receiving calls from residents concerned about what the <br /> Town n eras going to do about the 1 -acre site. A meeting was.held on Friday, Sept. Stn at the site, <br /> with Joyce Mason' the Fire Department, Conservation Commission, Highway Department, Town <br /> Counsel, Bill Mart S, Jeri Smith and Br nden Arnett from the Waquoit Reserve. The decision <br /> was made to have the pate closed at 9 PM and reopened at 7 AM from ll ernodail Day to October <br /> 1 . After October 1the gate will remain open the remainder of the year. The group also <br /> warts to move the gate closer towards the road so people will not get in, find the gate closed, and <br /> be stuck inside the gate. A sign would be posted stating that the gate will be closed at :00 PI I, <br /> and reopened at 7&00 AM. During the winter, if the road becomes impassable, the Town will be <br /> notified to close and rock the gate. <br /> PURPOSE.of THE STATE PARK ADVISORY COMMITTEE <br /> Bill l artiros voiced his concern that Brendan Annett is under the impression that the park is to be <br /> maintained for research. This was not the deal the Mate made with the Town. Jeri Smith will <br /> send a copy to Brendan Anntt of the ACT TO ESTABLISH THE SOUTH CAPE BEACH STATE <br /> PARK ADVISORY COMMITTEE set Grp in 1977, which states clearly-in Becton 3 the purpose of <br /> the committee. The responsibility of the committee is to make recommendations to the Dept. of <br /> Environmental Management relative to south Cape Beach on such matters to include, but not be <br /> limited to, park rales and regulations, design and plan review. <br /> LETTER To FEDERAL BUREAU OF INDIAN AFFAIRS <br /> ,fieri Smith asked that any published articles regarding the Indians' intentions for the Mate Park be <br /> forwarded to her, to assist her in composing a draft of a letter to the Federal Bureau of Indian <br /> Affairs. Comments can be forwarded to the Federal Bureau until October 3, 2006, the 180-day <br /> comment period ending on that date. <br /> Frank Connelly made a motion that.fieri St ith compose a letter to be seat to the Federal Bureau <br /> of Indian Affairs, to include the section of the Act to Establish the south Cape Beach State Park <br /> Advisory Committee which outlines the purpose of the Committee. Ben,Lofchie seconded the <br /> motion. All approved. <br /> .fieri Smith wili compose a draft of a letter to be seat to the Federal Bureau of Indian Affairs, taking <br /> Sections 2 and 8 from the ACT TO ESTABLISH THE SOUTH CAPE BEACH STATE PARK as <br /> the basis for the letter, stating the committee's point of view as to the future of the Mete Park. <br />
