TOWN OF MASHPEE <br /> SOUTH CAPE BEACH STATE PARK ADVISORY COMMITTEE <br /> Minutes of the Meeting of Tuesday, August 22, 2007 <br /> Members Present: Members Absent: <br /> Jeralyn Smith Lance Lambros <br /> Ben Lofchie Michael Cardeiro <br /> Gus Frederick Carey Murphy <br /> William Martiros <br /> Robert Lancaster <br /> Frank Connelly <br /> Chairman Jeralyn Smith called the meeting to order at 6:00 PM. <br /> REVIEW OF MINUTES <br /> The committee unanimously approved the minutes from the meeting of Tuesday, June 12, <br /> 2007, <br /> ISSUES CONCERNING THE CONDITION OF THE PARK <br /> Gus Frederick asked about the situation regarding the life guards and staff for the parking <br /> lot entry gate that were to have been appointed by the Regional Office in Carver. Jeri <br /> Smith reported complaints about the condition of the parking lot, as well. Also, there was <br /> only one buoy In the water, not two, to keep water craft from entering the swimming area. <br /> Gus Frederick suggested forming a subcommittee to address the issues concerning the <br /> condition of the park in preparation for next summer. All were in agreement that action <br /> needed to be taken by the Committee to improve the conditions at the Park. <br /> PROPOSED LETTER CONCERNING PARK LAND (See Attachment A). <br /> Jeri Smith distributed a draft of a letter she had prepared, to address the concerns that the <br /> Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe is seeking to acquire all or a portion of the 532 acres that <br /> compose the South Cape Beach State Park. A copy of the revised letter is attached to <br /> these minutes. <br /> TO WHOM SHOULD THE LETTER BE SENT(See Attachment B) <br /> The committee felt that the letter should go to all the State representatives including Jeff <br /> Perry and Theresa Murray, as well as the State Governor. A list of addresses is attached <br /> to these minutes. <br /> NEXT MEETING DATES <br /> The committee agreed to meet at the South Cape Beach State Park parking lot on <br /> Thursday, August 3dh, at 4 PM to survey the existing conditions at the beach. Brendan <br /> Annen and Allan-Morris will be invited to attend. A second follow-up meeting date was set <br /> for Tuesday, September 4, 2007, at Town Hall. <br /> OTHER BUSINESS <br /> Wills Work Road. Ben Lofchie asked about the status of the widening of the Wills Work <br /> Road. Bill Martiros stated that the Town is aware of the need for attention to the road, but <br /> is waiting until it is finally determined who has ownership of the road, the State, the Town, <br /> or possibly the Tribe. <br /> As there was no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 6:45 PM. <br /> Respectfully submitted, <br />
