8 The South Cape Beach State Park Advisory Committee is concerned that the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe may seek to acquire all or a portion of the 532 acres that comprise the South Cape Beach State Park. In 1977 the South Cape Beach State Park Advisory Committee was established by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The Act states that the Committee shall be responsible for making recommendations to the Department of Environmental Management relative to South Cape Beach State Park on such matters to include but not limited to park rules and regulations,design and plan review. Paramount in all planning objectives shall be the development of the resources that comprise area's historical heritage as well as its natural scenic beauty. The development and use of the Park has been limited to bathing, sunning,hiking, fishing,nature interpretation,non-motorized biking, and recreational use consistent with the fragile ecology of the site. The Committee members feel that they have protected and preserved this fragile piece of real estate. We have ensured that it is accessible to, and enjoyed by all our citizens. We strongly feel that it should continue to remain in our care.
