ONTown of MashpeeE <br /> { <br /> -F j• <br /> 5 <br /> 1 f= . <br /> �"ea NeckRoad North <br /> Mashpee, Massachusetts 02649 <br /> BOARDOF HEALTH PUBLIC SESSION <br /> Minutes of the Meeting of May 22, 2013 <br /> Board Members Present: Also Present: <br /> Burton Kaplan, Chairman Glen Harrington, Health Agent <br /> Karliiope Egloff, Co-Chairman <br /> Lucy Burton, Clerk <br /> Chairman Burton Kaplan called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM. <br /> APPOINTMENTS <br /> 7:15 PSI —Amy Cerel — septic Inspection Regulation Variance — '121 Fells Pond Road. <br /> Glen Harrington commented that the homeow-ner, Amy Cerel, is requesting a variance from the septic <br /> inspection regulation. IIIb. Harrington inspected the property and did- not see an issue with access to the <br /> tangy , and a full Title v inspection has not been performed as fret. <br /> Kalli pe Egloff made a motion that the Board of Health deny the variance request for 121 Fells Pond <br /> Road and to require a full septic inspection. Lucy Burton seconded the motion. The motion was <br /> unanimously approved. <br /> 7:20 PM — Public Hearing — Draft Tanning Regulation. <br /> Deirdre Aridson, Barnstable County Public Health Nurse, introduced herself to the Board and discussed <br /> the dangers of tanning by teenagers under the age of 18. Ms. Arvid son showed a PowerPoint <br /> presentation of the results of her survey of teens and their experiences and opinions about tanning. <br /> Teenagers don't realize the severity of skin cancer or the results of their behavior was the ultimate result <br /> of her surveys. <br /> Those that attended this Public Hearing informed the Board of their cancer stories and the risks of <br /> tanning and presented their opinion in passing the tanning regulation. Teenagers don't realize the <br /> severity of skin cancer. <br /> A local tanning salon owner, Ayer Maio, set her own regulations. No one under the age of 15 is allowed <br /> to tan, and anyone under the age of 18 must have a parent present to sign a consent form in order to <br /> use the tanning-beds at her salon; SunSational Tanning. Ms. Maio feels education on the dangers of <br /> tanning is important. <br /> Lucy Burton expressed her concern about tanning for those under the age of 18. Ms. Burton would like <br /> the Board to consider revising the draft tanning regulation to have anyone under the age of 18 not <br /> allowed to tan. <br /> Burton Kaplan would. like to continue discussion of the draft tanning regulation to the net.Board of <br /> Health meeting. <br /> NEW BUSINESS <br /> I. sign Warrants.
