The motion was
seconded by Brian. After the Minutes are approved and signed by the Clerk, a copy is taken
over to the Town Clerk's Office to be kept as part of their records on public meetings.
Richard reported that his work is continuing on the development of the expanded Veterans
Park, planning to extend the park from the corner of Great Neck Road North, along Route 130,
up to the present location of the Mashpee Community Gardens. We discussed multiple options
for pathways, appropriate lighting, historical signs, benches, and Native plantings, through the
wooded path from the present location of the gazebo, as well as other options due to ADA
considerations.
Richard had prepared his estimated figures to present at the CPC meeting on August 16, 2018,
which was scheduled at Town Hall just after our meeting. He would like to be able to proceed
quickly with getting proposals for the Phase II and III work necessary to create a historically
documented meaningful Veterans Memorial for all the veterans of Mashpee who have served in
the American Revolutionary War, the Civil War, the Spanish-American War, World War I, World
War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and the current wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and the
Middle East.
In July Richard went up to the Massachusetts State Library in Boston and photographed the
Mashpee Annual Reports which we and the Town of Mashpee does not have in our records —
1874-1898 and 1909-1914. Nancy has organized all the printed files into binders to be kept on
our book shelves with all the Mashpee's Annual Reports. She continues to work on processing
the digital files. The work done by Richard and Nancy will add to the Town records, as they
presently do not have these Annual Reports.
Ava is still working with Earl Mills of the Historic District Commission on the Mashpee Signage
Project.
