Marie Stevenson, Gail Wilson, Lynne Waterman, JoAnn Nadeau, Katherine <br /> Brown, Winnie Johnson-Graham, Elana Doyle, Louis Horner, Xavier Gonsalves (Non-Voting <br /> Member) <br /> Also Present: John Cotton-Selectman Liaison, Patricia DeBoer-Superintendent of Schools <br /> Absent: Kim Landry-Affirmative Action Officer <br /> CALL TO ORDER <br /> The meeting was called to order by Chairwoman Stevenson at 10:00 a.m. Introductions were made. <br /> APPROVAL OF MINUTES September 4, 2018 <br /> There were no proposed changes <br /> MOTION: Ms. Johnson-Graham made a motion to approve the minutes. Ms. Brown seconded <br /> the motion. All voted unanimously. <br /> APPOINTMENTS & HEARINGS <br /> None at this time <br /> COMMUNICATIONS & CORRESPONDENCE <br /> None at this time <br /> OLD BUSINESS <br /> Review Final Policy Statement Approved by Board of Selectmen-Chairwoman Stevenson <br /> reported that changes discussed last time, had been incorporated. The Background included text which <br /> noted the transfer of membership from any existing member of the Affirmative Action Committee and <br /> expanded membership to 9 voting members. One of the members shall be a school representative <br /> designated by the School Committee to serve as a voting representative of the school, because the <br /> underage student representative would be legally ineligible to vote_ School Superintendent Patricia <br /> DeBoer has expressed interest in serving as the representative. There would be discussion at tomorrow <br /> night's School Committee meeting. Mr. Horner and Ms. Doyle have been confirmed as voting <br /> members. <br /> NEW BUSINESS <br /> Guest Speaker,Patricia DeBoer, Mashpee Superintendent of Schools-Ms. DeBoer was <br /> present to discuss what was positive in the schools, what should be addressed and how the MIDC <br /> could help. Ms. DeBoer thanked the Committee for their invitation and stated that she felt that <br /> inclusion and diversity began with her and the culture established by the leadership in the schools, by <br /> working to make the students feel good about themselves and celebrating a diverse population. Ms, <br /> DeBoer indicated that she saw a supportive culture at the high school, with inclusivity and acceptance <br /> regardless of tastes and belief systems, where each student was able to find their own group and all <br /> groups supported one another. Ms. DeBoer was seeing a celebration of differences, noting it was the <br /> job of teachers and staff to ensure that all students were supported, valued and accepted, regardless of <br />
