4 <br /> Board of Selectmen <br /> Minutes <br /> December 3, 2018 <br /> NEW BUSINESS <br /> Mashpce Season of Illumination November 23, 2018 through January 1 2019; <br /> Temporary Sign Permit, Mashpee Chamber of Commerce: <br /> The Board of Selectmen was in receipt of an application from the Mashpee Chamber of Commerce <br /> for a Temporary Sign Permit; one sign (2' x 3 1/2 `) to announce the Mashpee Season of Illumination <br /> from November 23, 2018 through January 1, 2019. The sign would be placed near the patriotic lit <br /> tree at the Mashpee Rotary. <br /> Motion made by Selectman Gottlieb to approve the Temporary Sign Permit from the Mashpee <br /> Chamber of Commerce for the Mashpee Season of Illumination as presented. <br /> Motion seconded by Selectman O'Hara. <br /> VOTE: Unanimous. 5-0. <br /> Roll Call Vote: <br /> Selectman Sherman,yes Selectman Cahalane,yes Selectman Gottlieb,yes <br /> Selectman O'Hara, yes Selectman Cotton,yes Opposed, none <br /> Department of Public Works Director Catherine Laurent: <br /> Discussion of the Transfer Station: <br /> Catherine Laurent, Director of Public Works discussed the matter of recycling which has changed due <br /> to new restrictions imposed by China. The changes result in more restrictive standards and low. <br /> demands for certain materials. As a result of the market, the Board of Selectmen discussed whether <br /> or not to continue with the collection of single stream recycling or return to the separation the <br /> recyclables by residents. <br /> The contract with Gotta Do/WeCare Transportation is valid until the end of this fiscal year on June <br /> 30, 2019. <br /> Based on cost estimates, the $50 per ton single stream tip fee in FY19 in projected to increase to $100 <br /> per ton, from $34,000 to $68,000. The separation of recyclables of 4 different types of materials; <br /> mixed paper, cans, glass and plastic represents a total cost of$13,260 in FY19 and a projected cost of <br /> $10,800 in FY20. Based on the cost estimate, the difference between the single stream and separation <br /> of recyclables is $50,000. <br /> Through grant funding, the Town will purchase a new container to be used for the recycling of glass. <br /> And, the facility in the Town of Dennis would be utilized to recycle the glass materials. The tip fee <br /> for glass has lessened from $80 to $25 per ton. <br />
