M <br /> y <br /> . CHAMBER MEETING - Mr. Feldman attended the Chamber of Commerce <br /> meeting on January 17, 1995. He discussed the school council's work and <br /> informed the chamber members of Governor Welds proposal concermm�g the <br /> Voluntary Services Leave Program. So far Mr. Feldmann has received two <br /> * <br /> responses from state employees to have one day off with pay t i work our <br /> schools. <br /> . - Mr. Feldman gave an update on school <br /> improvement: <br /> School/Familyconnection: Suzanne Avtges is televising a weekly science <br /> program for chP.T.O.children. An Art History program will be televised soon, The P. <br /> news letter was reinstated by Maureen Paxton and Joanne Davis. The recent <br /> P.T.O. Pancake Breakfast Vas a success. Family Math Night is corning up in <br /> February. Family Science Night is March 2nd. A spaghetti supper is planned for <br /> March 31st. Senior citizens are presently taking a computer class with second and' <br /> thirdg rade students. pilary Ryder is conducting an after school Great Books <br /> enrichment class. The Mashpee 125th Anniversary Comrruttee has scheduled a <br /> fund-raiser, "Paint the Town" with our P.T.O. The culminating activity will be <br /> held on June 24, 1995 at a "Brush off." Artists will paint around our town and <br /> several activities Will be held under a tent at Mashpee Commons. Artists can <br /> submit their work for an auction. Also,T-shirts,sweatshirts and caps with the <br /> 125th logo will be on sale around tour . Proceeds Will go to the P.T.O. Mr. <br /> Feldman said that Leisure Services will run after-school acdvnties next year. Gus <br /> Fredricks wants to reach out to teachers for courses in the Fall. <br /> .) CRANT VV RI' -Mr. Feldma ►is drafting grant proposals,working <br /> through the Mashpee Educational Foundation to secure money and develop <br /> programs for our school. A grant was given to us recently by the Mashpee Arts <br /> Council. <br /> . PROFESSIONAL EVELOPME T-A voluntary professional development <br /> day was held on February 1 , 199 . Gerry Howland, Massachusetts`{Teacher of <br /> the Year was the dynamic keynote speaker. Mr. Feldman said that the full day of <br /> was workshops v successful. Bob Batey is working With teachers <br /> � <br /> demonstrating the format of the PALMS philosophy. A PALMS grant pays Mr. <br /> Badley to plan and co-teach science lessons one week each month. Mary Ryder <br /> said she believes that this format will prepare children for the open-ended <br /> questions on assessment tests, Mrs. DeConto mentioned that her first graders <br /> have benefited from the PALMS experiments that she and Mr. Bailey have taught <br /> together. Talents Unlimited was a series of workshops presented in the Fall for <br /> the staff at K.C. Coombs. Mr. Feldman said he felt that the staff considered these <br /> workshops to be very worthwhile. A graduate course sponsored by Fitchburg <br /> State V611 beprovided here un M and again in the Fall. I Ir.
