Mr. Feldman drafted.a letter on
the Community Problem Solving program. We will ask that
volunteers discuss the development and implementation
process with volunteers from other schools that already have
the program running. We hope to start this program in the
future.
Grant Writing. Mr. Feldman wrote a grant request to the
Massachusetts Cultural Council in October. We received a
grant to have Valery Stevens come to the school and make a
presentation. She will work with grades 4-5 on a program on
immigration. We schedule her to be in the school between
the end of March to the end of May. Mr. Feldman will also
try to invite Sarah Jacobsen to come in to work with the
younger children.
List of components for a School Improvement Plan.
Recommendation is to make some short and long term goals,
and to make them achievable. Mr. Feldman would like our
council to have, as a goal, to have the writing process
really work for the children in the Coombs School. The
second area of concern is mathematics development. We need
kids to think. Some material currently being presented does
not do that . We need to take math down a different road.
We will not have large amounts of funds to accomplish this .
Teachers have to be comfortable and committed to this
process .
Mr. Feldman recommends that we should limit the plan to 4-5
major goals, specially if one is a long range goal . He
opened discussion by soliciting ideas from the council:
a. Student publishing.
2
