y i
y i
will
be submitted as a multi year plan. we should not box
ourselves into any particular item, but should present where
e are and where we are going. The trainer recommends that we
report on where we are on the plan and modify it to indicate
where we are going.
4
5 ,
Q 1
Discussion f the School improvement Plan. Mr. Feldman
distributed copies of the plan from the last school year' s
Council . on the for-mat, Mr. Feldman -explained that the plan
should have some core values. The statements on the top of
each sheet represent what last year' s council considers
important, one of the problems revolves around the poor job
that schools do in informing the community. It is not only
during budget time that we run into a problem. we need to
build a sense of school community. The three core values
represent a consensus of what we, and others, consider
important. The vision is what you want to see the school do
to become unique. We have tried in the past to establish
partnerships with town businesses and town departments.
However, we have not been as successful as we would like.
Members of the Council discussed possibilities for community
involvement. one suggestion was to have a community art show,
highlighting town businesses and government buildings police
station, senior center, fire department, town hall, etc. ) .
Another possibility is to have businesses cone into the school
was t have the
and be highlighted. Another suggestion
volunteers become involved with the Council. The center for
\Optimum care may be a possible resource. we need to start
small and develop* we must build on what we have.
Ms. O'Brien recommends that the council may want to review the
previous plan and pair down some of the long and short term
goals. one thing is to let parents and the community learn
what we are teaching. The idea should be what we could do for
them instead of what they the community) will do for us. o
core statement two, one possibility is to have children
interview other children on specific "citizenship" issues. A
curriculum
fair is another possibilityo Ms, Dawes explained
how her school district conducts their fair. The concept o
b r i n.ging parents into the. learning experience is worthwhile
Members of the Council discussed the roles of volunteers and
parents as volunteers. some concern raised by some members
centered on the role of a parent in his- or her child's class
term volunteer, short to rm volunteer, etc o e The
uestionn ire.-for •teachers --(to
omm tee-. . po el p .m :x+
■r 77'►■' +i' ` nol
_e acheist " #i - - ,- "5{•'i #. t'/'.. ♦-1, `
V rmi-n ra Aite: •a rY:'."6,.^"-.-"y. w..
%
- ' ,t - .-the uestomla ..re a _ f l b _
_ the .r" a►va 1 .a g - tiywV '
fornated -1E r t r,
fir. l ►an, will., str-ihute..'ma'terals and ask for._ . . . . feedback- . - .. •s',- - . r .
ifor to the next. meeting +
