KCC School Council 10/20/04 Meeting minutes The meeting began at 3:30 p.m. In attendance at the meeting were Mrs. Burlein Pitz, R Mrs. Moran Nye, Mrs. LaCroix, Mrs. I omke r, Mr. Hendricks and Mrs. Doyle. The new council members were introduced. Absent at the meeting was Mrs. LaFevor and Mrs. Lewis-Dice. 11 There was no one present for the open forum. III School Council was discussed. This included the following: 1. The School Improvement Plan . An overview of the FY06 budget 3. Identifying and implementing educational goals IV The Council discussed capital improvement funding for FYo . This comprised most of the meeting. It was decided that the following would be included in the ICC CIP budget: -Flooring,bathroom facilities, computers, storage space, and driveway pawing These items have been submitted to the superintendent and the Finance office for submission to the town. In order of priority, flooring is the most important and secondly, more student and adult bathrooms in the building. Thirdly of importance, are storage areas(shed or garage). Pictures will be submitted to the Superintendent to address flooring and storage needs. The second part of the discussion for the FY06 budget involved this year's reading curriculum and the revision of that curriculum. The Council goes on record ofthe urgency to adopt the best possible reading program for Coombs which integrates the key elements of reading, the Mass frameworks, and NCLB regulations. The Council also noted that they would request presently grant-funded positions. These will again be submitted when working on the schools appropriation budget. Among the positions to be requested will be .6 Early Childhood Coordinator, seven K paras, 1.0 I teachers, 1.0 preschool teacher, 1.0 preschool paras, 1.0 title one teacher, 1.0 title one paraprofessional,The Council also recommended 1.0 remedial math teacher and 1.0 computer teacher and that the district look at a full tine curriculum director. Computers at I CC require a gnat deal of upgrading. The computer technician in the district is suggesting that rather than reinstating the computer lab, ICC look at a mobile computer lab. However, if the computer infrastructure is not corrected this mai not be viable option. Both issues must be addressed I The meeting adjourned at pm. Respectfully submitted, x Louise Doyle
