Community Support Narrative, Project Description and Documentation
Please provide a description of the project, including a summary of the project's history
and the ways in which the community fulfilled the local action requirement.
The Town of Mashpee, the Mashpee Affordable Housing Committee, and Habitat for Humanity
work cooperatively together and actively seek out opportunities to partner. The Degrass Road
ProPertis part of a cluster subdivision. As a condition of the Special Permit Decision the
Planning Board required that one lot be donated for deed restricted affordable housing
Purposes. As a result of the Special Permit Decision Habitat was the recipient of the donation of
this 10,121 SF lot.
Habitat will build a 3-bedroom ranch style home on the site. The home will be priced affordably
at or below 60% or 65% of area median income. The home's sale rices will be at or around
$150,000. This Habitat home will be affordable in perpetuity.
This Habitat for Humanity home will be built with our tried-and-true "sweat equity" model. Our
selectedpurchaser-family will partner with Habitat and invest 250 to 500 hours building their
home alongside community volunteers. This promotes homeowners who are well educated on
building and maintenance and fosters a true sense of community. Habitat works closer
our buyers, not just through a rigorous application process, but throughout the construction
period providing significant homebuyer education including preparation for closing, budget
counseling, and workshops in caring for their home and landscape, Sweat equitV andpre-
purchase workshops have proven to be key elements in fostering successful homeownership.
Habitat also partners with our communities, seeking donations of materials, professional
services, and labor. We strive to make our homes welcome in a neighborhood and to be good
neighbors. Habitat works to create a collaborative spirit where a whole community can be
actively involved in helping to address the affordable housing crisis.
In addition to general community support, Habitat sought funding support as well. Habitat
applied to the Mashpee Community Preservation Committee, and as anticipated, received
$50,000 in funding toward this project. The funding for this proiect was approved by voters at a
Special Town Meeting held on Monday, May 7 2018
Signatures of Support for the Local Action Units Application
Chief Executive Officer: Signature:
defined as the mayor in a city and the board
of selectmen in a town, unless some other Print Name: Carol Sherman
municipal officer is designated to be the
chief executive officer under the provisions
of a local charter Date:
Chair, Local Housing Partnership: Signature:
(as applicable)
Print Name: Allan Isbitz
Date:
Updated January 2016 -2-
