Mr. DeSorgher was attending because of his interest in Mashpee's history.
Rosemary made a motion to approve the Minutes from our June 22, 2017 meeting, as
amended, and that motion was seconded by Ava Costello. Rosemary made a motion to
approve the Minutes from our July 20, 2017, as read, and that motion was seconded by Ava
Costello.
Ava is exploring ways, using telecommunications, for the Mashpee Historical Commission to
remain active during the winter months when we are closed to the public. Rosemary agreed
stating that there have been items of significant importance to the Archives that have been sent
to us during the time when we are closed. Nancy has been meeting with the public for several
years, by appointment only, to cover all inquiries during the winter months.
We will continue to follow our meeting schedule. We will meet on the 311,Thursday of each
month, at 4:30pm, so that it will be more convenient for people who are working to attend.
The Commission continued to discuss the new pickleball courts proposed to be built where the
present Community Gardens are located on Route 130 in the Historic District, Ava proposed
that the Commission send a letter to the Board of Selectmen with other ideas for the use of that
land. She personally would like to preserve that land in Mashpee's Historic District as open
space. She would like the Commissioners to respond with an email with any additional ideas
that we may have by August 31 st. We, as a Commission, would be acting in an advisory
capacity only.
Richard DeSorgher attended our meeting as a resident of Mashpee. His resume is extensive,
and he expressed an interest in joining our Commission. We encouraged him to submit a letter
to the Board of Selectmen as we would very much like him to join us.
