r
Mashpee has never voted to split the tax rate nor has it voted a residential exemption. The
split tax rate has not offered any significant tax relief for residential property owners while
it could be a burden to old and deterrent to new businesses. The residential exemption has
not been adopted more as an equity issue though there has been strong opinion that it
could damage the second home industry as well. There already is a personal property tax
on thero erty of non-resident homeowners is amounting to some $20,000,000.
P p
assessed value paid by non-residents only.
If the Board of Selectmen feel any of these options are worthy of consideration my
suggestion has been and still is to study the issues and have public hearings during the
Summer when those most effected will be able to voice their opinions.
I'have attached worksheets to illustrate the impact of a split rate and of a residential
exemption.
The suggested vote is to maintain an equal tax rate with no small business or residential
exemptions.
.. - ..... - ` Y
„.r"y L• i.i
