Page 4 <br /> Board of Selectmen <br /> Minutes <br /> November 18, 1996 <br /> PUBLIC COMMENT. <br /> Beverly Dane,Vice President of the Mashpee Environmental Coalition <br /> read aloud a memo addre s sed to the Board of S elec toren and Conservation <br /> Commission dated November 18, 1996. (enclosed) <br /> Ms. Dane urged the Selectmen to conduct a Public hearing to protect <br /> the Mashpee River, and Shoestring Bay watersheds, and the quality of <br /> the Town's drinking water. <br /> Evelyn Webb read aloud a prepared statement relative to the proposed <br /> . P P <br /> relocation of Sampson's Mill Road. Pamela Derry requested the Town <br /> assist the residents effected by the recent contamination suspected to <br /> be emanating from the Augat property. <br /> The Board requested a copy of the above statement, and agreed to meet <br /> with Mrs.Webb to further discuss residential concerns. In response <br /> to a statement made by Mrs. Webb,Mr. Whritenour,Executive Secretary <br /> indicated that the Town is not pursuing any proposal to relocate <br /> Sampson's Mill Road. <br /> Chris Tufts requested to attend the above meeting, and suggested that <br /> representatives from Maushop Stables be present for added discussion. <br /> *Approved, <br /> In other matters, Richard Shaughnessy urged the Board to look favorably <br /> upon the request of the Conservation Commission for the nomination and <br /> designation of Districts of Critical Planning Concern (DCPQ, and schedule <br /> a Public Hearing to obtain input into the process. <br /> Ed Baker also urged the designation of a DCPC for the Mashpee River and <br /> Shoestring Bay to protect the quality of life,reduce existing health hazards, <br /> and for the protection of diminished property values. <br /> Charles Costello, President of the Mashpee Environmental Coalition <br /> made note of several drafts relative to the DCPC nomination process. <br /> He urged the Board to go forward with the process, and involve the <br /> Board of Health in this important matter of concern. <br /> Jamie Regan agreed that it is important to protect the Mashpee River and <br /> the quality of life in Mashpee. He suggested that further study determine <br /> the approach and effect of Planning Board regulations. Mr. Regan made <br /> note of the Boch Center and the proposed Boys and Girls Club. If there <br /> is a moratorium, how will it effect the tax rate and economic values of this <br /> area asked Mr. Regan? <br />
