All oysters sold to market were from either SC16 or SC19 and
citations have been issued by the environmental police to an individual as well as a few others
that I am not aware of. The Massachusetts Environmental Police along with the Department of
Natural Resources have been working together on this investigation. Tonight I invited our
regional officer, Scott Opie,to the meeting tonight to discuss the series of events that have
occurred over the past few weeks."
Opie: "The events are still under investigation but I will explain what occurred when I began to
look deeper into the wholesale transactions made. There was a report of a digger on Mike
Ronhock's oyster grant on December the 17th. Four wholesale markets were contacted and we
were able to find that the individual being Kenny Thompson of Mashpee sold a total of 1,000
pieces to InterBay Seasfoods that same day. Thompson, upon questioning stated that he was
unaware of the perimeter of the grant in SC16 (Ronhock's area). Thompson admitted to the
removal of oysters off thegrant and was cited on the 17th for harvesting oysters from a grant area
without permission under chapter 130 section 67."
Several other transactions were then found at the wholesale dealer after looking into
Kenny Thompson's transactions over the past two months that amounted to 13,000 pieces sold
out of Mashpee waters. These dates span from 11-29-2018 to 12-18-2018 all of which were sold
to Interbay Seafoods expect the transaction from the 18th which was sold to Big Rock Oysters a
