Matoian Draft Application: <br /> Scott Matoian <br /> Shellfish Grant Narrative <br /> [A] Location: The proposed area is in northern section of Hamblin Pond. Hamblin Pond <br /> is a bay connected by Little River to Waquoit Bay. The Area is to the East of an unnamed <br /> island in Hamblin Pond. <br /> [B] Boundaries: See attached map with GPS Lat/Long and boundaries in feet. <br /> [C] Size:Total Area 1.9 Acres equal to approx. 81,809 square feet. <br /> [D]Natural Resources/ Bottom Sediment: The area does not contain any significant <br /> shellfish species. The bottom sediment is deep mud. >3ft of mud with sand underneath it. <br /> [E] Buoys:Yellow Buoys,16 inches in diameter with the words "Shellfish Aquaculture" <br /> and the licensed number at least 2 inches tall at all corners of the grant. <br /> [F] Structure/Gear:Consist of cages,bags,anchors, ropes, and chain. Cages will be both <br /> floating and on the bottom. Maximum amount of floating cages and bags will not exceed <br /> 20,000 square feet of coverage as allowed by the Army Corps of Engineering. Looking <br /> into the "F1owN Grow" and "OysterGro"system, for floating cages. Floating bags will be <br /> nylon or plastic mesh 2'x3'. Maximum number of 2000 mostly bottom cages not more <br /> than 18" offthe bottom. Cages will consist of vinyl coated wire mesh 4'x4' and 3'x5'. <br /> Bottom cages will mostly be used in the winter months. <br /> [G] Fill:No fill will be used <br /> [H]Species of Cultivation: Oysters will be the primary shellfish being grown, with <br /> Bay Scallops and Quahogs secondary. Oyster Seed of various sizes is going to be <br /> purchased from an accredited shellfish hatchery. They will be raised in fine mesh <br /> bags.Once they get larger they will be transferred into larger bags and cages until <br /> they are ready to be cultivated. The cages and bags will be a mixture of floating and <br /> bottom. Scallop and Quahog seed will also be farmed and raised in a similar manner <br />
