401
G
Mr. Rodney C. Collins February 27,2019
Mashpee Town Manager
16 Great Neck Road North
Mashpee MA 0264.9
RE: Conservation Restriction to The Trustees of Reservations,Inc.
Dear Mr. Collins,
on behalf of the Native Land Conservancy, Inc. and The Trustees of Reservations, Inc. please find
enclosed a final copy of this conservation restriction (CR)for the Selectmen's approval under MGL Ch.
184,s. 31-33. As you may know, this approval is necessary so that the CR can be recorded in perpetuity.
The Division of Conservation Services,on behalf of the Secretary of Enemy and Environmental Affairs,
and the Mashpee Conservation Commission have both previously reviewed this document. You will find
the ConCom recommendation attached.
A very generous family will soon be donating title to the three small islands in Wakeby Pond to the
Native Land Conservancy for conservation and passive recreation purposes. Though unbuildable, under
our ownership we will provide respectful public access to the islands. We are very pleased to be in
partnership with The Trustees of Reservations, which has preserved the beautiful Lowell Molly
Reservation on Conaumet Point between Wakeby and Mashpee Ponds. The Trustees also preserve long
stretches of the Mashpee River. In this case,The Trustees will hold the CR and help us to guarantee
permanent protection of the islands.
The non-profit Native Land Conservancy was founded in 2012 to acquire and preserve natural areas in
Eastern Massachusetts for conservation. We currently own small parcels in Barnstable and Sandwich.
The Trustees was founded in 1891 and is the oldest non-profit land trust in America. They own
museum-quality landscapes throughout Massachusetts.
Thank you for your assistance. Please let me know when the Selectmen can put this on their agenda for
their vote. We will appear at that time and answer any questions that the board may have. We will also
bring the Conservation Restriction to the Selectmen's meeting in hopes that they can sign it that night.
In Thanksgiving,
Ramona L. Peters
Founder/President
cc: R.Warren,The Trustees
enc.
Native Land Conservancy, Inc. P. o.
