Coombs School Council <br /> Meeting Minutes <br /> Wednesday, November 2, 2005 <br /> I The meeting was called to order at 3:40 p.m. The October minutes were <br /> reviered. ,King Palmer moved to approve the minutes, Mary russell seconded, and the <br /> minutes were u anirnousiy approved. Purposes and responsibilities of the Council were <br /> discussed. The Council will review the budget next month. The KCC School <br /> Improvement Plan for 05-06 was also reviewed. <br /> fI T Dere was- a short discussion of the present Health Advisory om ittce with <br /> concentration.regarding peanut free school providers or cIassrooms district w 1de. <br /> III The Coombs School is literacy and math driven. Literacy is 0% fiction, % <br /> nor-fiction at the K-2 level. <br /> IV Longer literacy blocks are required for next year.. Scheduling is an issue due to <br /> lurch, recess, and specials, which restrict longer time periods for block. other problems <br /> impa tlnc, literacy are every day early dismissals, tardiness, and family vacations. <br /> Concerns about Professionals Development were expressed. There is no time <br /> during the school day to network, caucus about student reeds, etc. Release time is <br /> strongly recornmended. Currently, Sandwich has 9.5 professional days, Falmouth has 6. <br /> and Plymouth has 8.5 days. <br /> V1 Dr. Part er will be returning on Monday 11-7-0 5 to give results to the Coombs - <br /> staff from the first LIBELS assessment administration in FY06. <br /> V11 By 2014 all children must be at a proficient level including the Special Education <br /> stude is and all other subgroups. Cape toms have a problem with transient children and <br /> their education has been Inconsistent. We need to look at ways to find a longer block in <br /> scheduling and time for professional development and an ongoing budget for literacy <br /> programs is required <br /> VIII E.Q.A is corning up soon. The audit is December -10'x'. The district will receive <br /> a report focusing on improvement measures. This audit occurs every 5 gears. We also <br /> have our SPED mid-cycle review this year, as well as our Pre K and K reaccredidation <br /> this year. Program improvement mapping is also in process. <br /> Ix There is some discussion on whether or not to propose a math remediation <br /> teacher. There are no programs for children that need intervention. We will propose a 1 <br /> math position and 1/2 math remediation position.
