fir- <br /> Mashp a''waterways Commission <br /> Minutes of the September 11,2012 Meeting <br /> The meeting was filed to order by Chairman Ken Bates at 0905 AM Meeting Room , <br /> Mashpee Town Had]} <br /> Present were: Ken Bates,Steve Pinard,Tim Leedhain,Stephen Mone and Bill Taylor. <br /> Absent. Al Wickel, Paul Zammit <br /> Also Present: Rick York <br /> Chairman Iden Bates called for a moment of silence in memory of 9111/01 terrorist attacks,and <br /> for all persons who have sacrificed their laves for the USA sine that event. <br /> Voted unanimous approval of minces of August 14th,2012 meeting. Motion by Steve Pinard, <br /> second by Bill Taylor. <br /> Correspondence- <br /> BSC bird monitoring report for th.6 Popponesset Spit engaged by Save the Bay and shared with <br /> the Town as part of relationship with sediment and beach nourishment prow from <br /> maintenance dredge programs in T'own's waters. <br /> Committee Reports} <br /> Harbormaster Report: Stephen Mone advised that there is a dead turtle washed up on the <br /> Poppones et spit that will need to be disposed of in some manger yet to be determined. <br /> Harbormaster Mone rgart d that the Bays were experienced normal use and traffic. Some buoys <br /> have been damaged from age and use,and.nay need replacement. Mooring fields have been <br /> purged of unauthorized or vacant moorings,and all new spaces have been re-assigned from the <br /> mooring lists. <br /> ShellfishReport: Shellfish Constable Rick York reported that shellfish <br /> propagation programs are-underway. ,about 1100 bags of sheuish seeds are being <br /> dispersed. The oyster season begins November I and a good crop's expected. Current <br /> growths ofplaced seeds are doing well. Falmouth has seeded a large scahop crop and <br /> Mashpee should see an increase in flops in waquoit Bay from this crop. Mr. York <br /> reported on the cause of the murky and strange color of the local waters as reported at the <br /> last meeting by Al.Wickel. Steve Pinard also noted similar water colors aild general <br /> murkiness were noted in Buzzards Bay and Catau et last week. Mr.York confirmed <br /> tht possibly due to warm waters,algae have grown to thio levels. He noted that it is not <br /> hanmful to huaruans or shush and will disappear when cold weather returns.Rick York <br /> also noted the apparent success of the solar motorized water cleaners tested this year in , <br /> Santuit Pond. <br /> Mashpee-wakeby;no report <br /> warluoit Bay: no additional report other than Steve bone report. <br /> Popponesset Bay: Ken Bates asked on the reasoning for the closure of the fish-cleaning <br /> station at the New Sehury Marina location.Both Rick York and Stephen Hone knew nothing <br /> about the removal of the fish cleaning station at the New seahury Marina. <br /> Water Quality Fest Program: Steve Pinard reported that the final testing of the year took <br /> place without any major problems. Steve noted that this year had gone well for the water Quality <br /> Fest program. Sampling had been completed well as most volunteers have become experienced <br />
